An English kick-wheel, a re-purposed dough mixer and wood-fired kilns - it can only be Stephen Parry’s ceramics studio!

@stephenparryceramics continues to mix his own clay using different ball clays and china clay from the south of England. He also makes his own ash glaze recipes from different woods such as apple. The organic uneven tones of the final works are the result of the potter’s skill at manipulating happy accidents in the kiln.

Three miles South East of Fakenham, take the 'Little Ryburgh Only' turning from the A1076.

Studio open to visitors Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during North Norfolk Studios.

The Garden Comes Inside is a thematic contemporary art exhibition that highlights making in relation to the historic garden at Bolwick Hall, Norfolk.
There are three major themes to the show: plants, animals and the land, and artists include ceramic makers: Helena Lacy, Stephen Parry, Katie Spragg, Nessie Stonebridge, Emily Stapleton Jefferis, Alice Walton, Lucy Whitford, in the company of other artists whose work in two dimensions adds context: Vija CelminsPhoebe Cummings, Yayoi Kusama, Chloe Mandy, Yvonne Mullock, Kiki Smith.
The garden at Bolwick Hall was designed by Humphry Repton and features cultivated and wilder areas of planting, a lake, the site of an old mill, marshland and woodland.

Caroline Fisher Projects was set up in 2018 to produce exhibitions in a range of venues with a focus on ceramics. Caroline’s interest is in clay as a material with the versatility to express ideas and feelings, as well as to perform a function. Previous exhibitions with Norfolk & Norwich Festival include Plants, Porcelain, People in 2021 and Littoral in 2024.

Gallery Visit: Bolwick Hall, Norfolk
The Garden Comes Inside curated by Caroline Fisher
We dropped in on one of the more successful visual art events of the Norfolk and Norwich Festival this year. It is one of the few to be located outside Norwich, in Marsham, quite near to where we were based for the last twelve years - Aylsham. It is described as: "a contemporary art journey inspired by the historic garden at Bolwick Hall, Norfolk."

This is an exhibition exploring contemporary and applied art in dialogue with the historic landscape of Bolwick Hall. It follows a smaller preview presentation at Somerset House at the applied arts art fair - Collect 2026. The current show comprises sixteen makers and artists who have worked to the theme of the garden, while there are framed works by five or six international artists like Kate MccGwier, Vija Celmins and Yayoi Kusama, who have been included by the curator Caroline Fisher because their work meets the criteria for their inclusion.

The mix of international and local artists works well, nothing looks out of place or odd in their elegant surroundings. In many cases, the paintings, ceramics and framed works encapsulate late 19th and early 20th century decorative movements. Caroline specialises in ceramics and has a discerning eye. New Clouds Over Mountains – Bolwick Hall collaboration

This piece, along with others, will be exhibited at @bolwicknorfolk for @nnfest with @carolinefisherprojects.

A big thank you to @carolinefisherprojects for including my work and for the opportunity to experiment with the image of Bolwick Hall. Collaborating with creatives and their existing prints and artworks is something I want to explore more. There was some trial and error in working out the right DPI, but it led to interesting results and an added layer of image distortion.

The Garden Comes Inside is open 10–24 May, everyone welcome. Link in bio.

Close up details of the third Re-print side table, made for @carolinefisherprojects for @collectartfair & @craftscouncil

Re-print is a series exploring how ceramic surfaces preserve and obscure storytelling. Using a glaze-printing method developed during her MA at the Royal College of Art, Helena Lacy layers and reinterprets classical blue and white porcelain imagery, using its familiarity, and questioning how visual histories are retold. The work reflects her interest in hidden narratives and how memory and place are embedded in all objects. Through the distortion of image - created by repetition and fluid movement, the series invites reflection on memory and the quiet power of material storytelling.
