I get so excited every time I find out there’s a new book in this series! I read this one before it came out but am very late in writing my review. Caroline Kepnes is one of those authors whose writing I absolutely love, and Joe Goldberg is such a fascinating, twisted, and completely unpredictable character that I can never get enough of him. I flew through this one in just five days and honestly could have kept reading.

Being back inside Joe’s head is always such an experience. The way he justifies his thoughts and actions, convinces himself he’s the good guy, and somehow makes the most disturbing things sound reasonable is what makes him such a compelling character. His inner monologue is dark, disturbing, and often so absurd that you can’t help but be pulled into his way of thinking, even when you know just how messed up he really is.

I loved the setting in the world of elite writers and academia, and the way the story explored ego, ambition, and the lengths people will go to for recognition and success. There were plenty of twists and unexpected moments, and I loved seeing Joe in a new environment where things didn’t necessarily unfold the way he wanted them to. It was also interesting to see the walls closing in on him a little more this time.

What I love most about this series is that Joe never stops fascinating me. He’s completely unhinged, yet Kepnes writes him in a way that keeps you wanting to know what he’ll do next. I love her writing style, her dark humor, and the way she gets inside the minds of her characters. Five books in, and I’m still just as invested in Joe’s twisted world as ever.

I loved being back in this series as always! #foryouandonlyyou #netgalley #bookreviewer

Want to be in with spooky season, yet don't like horror? Check out my reading recs! 📚

I've read some horror and will pick it up if it's highly recommended. But, I don't prefer it. That doesn't mean I don't get to participate in spooky season reading! 🧙‍♀️

💬 Are you a horror reader? Let me know in the comments! 🩷
