⛔️ Today the National Glass Centre in Sunderland closes for the last time, ahead of a proposed demolition at the hands of Sunderland University, supposed custodians of the centre. The public outcry and political pressure to prevent a forced closure has been steadily growing over the past three years, reaching fever pitch in the past few weeks. 1,000 years of glassmaking history on this site Is at risk ot of being extinguished.

The campaign continues, with C20 Society’s listing application currently being assessed by @historicengland.

Ahead of the sold out debate earlier this week @owenhopkins, Director of the @farrellcentre, and @carolynbasing, Chair of @savethenationalglasscentre, shared some thoughts on why this is a facility and a building too good to lose.

Today is the official opening of FLOW at Makers Guild Wales. The exhibition is part of a series of exhibitions that the Contemporary Glass Society has run part of the UN International Year of Glass.

Introducing our On the Edge artists:
Carolyn Basing
Stilled Life 2019

In Stilled Life, Basing's intention wasn’t to create beauty but instead she deliberately sought accretions and flaws. She manipulated and degraded the casting processes, creating wax flow patterns, bubble-adhered surfaces and over-steamed moulds taken almost to point of failure.

Stilled Life is part of the On the Edge exhibition - 8-26 July @northlandscreative. The exhibition is supported by @Creativescots as part of the SGS@40 project.
