Horse and carriage rides at Moses Cone park

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Did you know the Cone Manor in Blowing Rock, NC is not only a gorgeous place to hike but full of history??? 🤷‍♀️

I surprised Jeff with a @carriagerun ride on July 4th and not only loved the stunning views, but learned so much about the area as well! 🧐

Moses Cone (a Jewish immigrant whose name was originally spelled (Cohen or Kahn) made his fortune by selling denim to the Levi Strauss company (aka @levis ) 👖

Hearing Chad tell us all about the Cone family dynasty was an unexpected but welcome surprise to our adventure!

And my absolute fave part??
Watching Chad teach his daughter, Charlotte, how to lead the carriage. Such a sweet duo & definitely made me wish our kids were with us 😍🐴

The 2 hr ride was peaceful, beautiful & educational! Highly recommend if you are planning a trip to @blowingrocknc ❤️❤️

Someone asked me today, “What was one of your favorite moments in 2024?” This is what is said…. @carriagerun ! I highly recommend Chad’s carriage company for anniversaries, dates, special occasions and family moments…. It’s a 2 hr ride through Moses Cone’s Memorial Park filled with incredible history. My mother in-law told me it was by far her favorite activity she has done with me! Please give him a follow and tell him how much I loved this experience! @ncmountaintraveler …… #blowingrock #blowingrocknc #blowingrocknorthcarolina #visitblowingrock #ncmountains #northcarolina #northcarolinamountains #visitnorthcarolina #visitnorthcarolinamountains #visitncmountains #visitnc #boonenc #bannerelknc #highcountry #charlotte #raleigh #summertrips #ncsummer #memorymaking

Moses H. Cone Memorial Park is one of the most iconic landmarks anywhere along the Blue Ridge Parkway. We’ve been exploring the Cone Trails all throughout 2023 as part of Great Trails NC’s #YearOfTheTrail, and figured we’d pack in one more before the year was over. This week we hiked Duncan Road, one of the main carriage trails connecting Flat Top Manor and Bass Lake. A great walk with some spectacular views, we simply can’t recommend this trail enough!

Access: Via Bass Lake Parking Area or via Flat Top Manor
Distance: 5 miles out-and-back (2.5 miles one way)
Time: About 2 hours
Difficulty: Moderate
Surface: Gravel
Use: Walking, Running, Dog Walking, Horseback Riding, Carriage Rides

This trail connects from Bass Lake to Flat Top Manor, making it one of the best routes to access both locations. A gentle trail, the surface is a wide gravel and doesn’t require any special footwear, although you will be gaining and losing some elevation as you go so be ready to climb in some areas. Enjoy a stroll along the historic old carriage trails through rhododendron lined forests, and expect to see at least a couple fellow hikers as this trail is relatively popular throughout the year due to its ease of access.

As we’ve mentioned above, horseback riding and carriage rides are also available to reserve ahead of time. While we were out on the trail, Chad from @carriagerun passed by and was kind enough to ask if we’d like a ride.

Although we don’t recommend getting into just ANY random carriage in the woods with a stranger, we have to admit that it was a wonderful way to spend a crisp afternoon in December and we can’t thank Chad and the folks at Carraige Run enough!

So if you find yourself in the High Country and are looking for a truly special outing, look no further than Duncan Road! Huge thanks to @greattrailsnc for all they’ve done to promote outdoor recreation throughout the year! We’ve enjoyed exploring all year long, and can’t believe this trail marks number 51 of 52 trails we’ve hiked so far. Stay tuned for more upcoming content from the trails!

Went on a beautiful ride with Chad who owns Carriage Run Carriage Service in Moses H. Cone Memorial Park today. Best way to see this 3500 acre summer home of textile entrepreneur, Moses Cone.

Joey planned the most amazing birthday activity for us… a 3 hour ride through the mountains around Blowing Rock. We were driven by Chad and his trusty steed Ivan from Carriage Run Carriage Service. It was an incredible afternoon full of amazing beauty, great conversation, and lots of fun! We had the best time!!
