A year after their first conversation, Bazaar Movie reunites with playwright @suziemillerwriter . One of the most acclaimed voices in contemporary theatre, Miller has reshaped the way the stage speaks about justice, motherhood, and women’s lived experiences through works like #primafacie and #interalia earning major international honours including the Olivier Award. From the young lawyer confronting sexual violence and institutional silence in Prima Facie, to the judge Jessica in Inter Alia, torn between the courtroom and family life, Miller keeps asking the same urgent question: when the roles of mother, wife, and judge collide, can a woman still make a truly independent judgment — for others, and for herself? In Miller’s work, motherhood is never a fixed identity, but a constant negotiation between duty, morality, and love. This time, we met her inside a theatre in Sydney, documenting her latest reflections and creative process. Miller still believes in the power of theatre: strangers gathering in the dark, watching together, sitting in silence together, moved together — and then learning how to speak again. 𝗙𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗖 𝗕𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗦 from last summer’s workshop in Lijiang. Golden lotus banana flowers—native to Yunnan—set onto bamboo stools, lifted on improvised crutch feet. Long-necked, slightly off balance. Crouching, teetering, gathering among troughs of local kangaroo paw and tea leaves. A loose herd spread across the courtyard—watchful, yellow. 𝘼 𝙍𝙊𝙊𝙁 𝙊𝙁 𝙏𝙃𝙀𝙄𝙍 𝙊𝙒𝙉: The roof as protagonist at Lina and Chen’s wedding in the courtyard of @amandayan_resort—at once shelter and stage, a gracious host to a profusion of mountain flora: Yunnan pine, dogwood, tiger lily, and bayberry. Guests were seated in the four cardinal directions, framing the ceremony in quiet symmetry. The bride wore a black headdress, the groom a feathered capelet—an homage to the highland traditions of the Yi. 𝘉𝘜𝘚𝘏𝘍𝘐𝘙𝘌 𝘌𝘊𝘖𝘓𝘖𝘎𝘐𝘌𝘚—Earlier this year, at the historic Palm House in Sydney—under a glass roof that intensified the sun’s heat—we composed an installation in a smouldering fugue state; a reminder that fire is part of nature’s playbook, where renewal is often ushered through destruction. Charred branches formed a pyre, from which rose dark plumes of Agonis flexuosa, smokebush, and Elaeagnus × ebbingei—its silvery undersides catching the light like flying ash. Towering above, bromeliad flowers shot skyward, their fiery tips licking the air like tongues of flame, while ramrod-straight Brunia pierced the layers of char below, signalling the quiet insistence of new life. Last week, we were honored to host a workshop with @thishumidhouse . It was truly exciting to watch them start from scratch, develop ideas in biomorphic form, and build all of these together with the participants in the Palm House the oldest surviving glasshouse in New South Wales. 🩵

A week ago, for (SUB)TROPICAL—our workshop in Sydney hosted by @chopsticksstudio—we gathered at the Palm House, the oldest surviving glasshouse in New South Wales, to co-create something momentary yet insistent. Flanking its entrance are two experiments in biomorphic form: a writhing skin of philodendron backs pressed into surface, Gymea leaves reaching skyward in a diagonal charge—an unmistakable ‘dab,’ holding the energy of now. A flicker of summer dahlias leads the eye, while the sleepy heads of papyrus languish in the wind, movement caught in stillness. Thank you to all who came and gave of themselves. Made with many hands, on Gadigal land, with deep gratitude to its Traditional Custodians, past and present ❤️ 📸 @carrieliii from @chopsticksstudio
