"There's power when the permanent meets the perishable." Bobby McAlpine
That contrast is the design, not a byproduct of it.

Transforming our wish list into architecture is the first step in designing our new home.

I’m starting with how I want the house to feel, not just how I want it to look. Once the architecture is established, the design decisions become so much easier.

I’ve been loving deepening my understanding of architecture alongside @vanpondarchitectpllc

Some homes reveal themselves slowly. A winding approach, filtered light through the trees, and the feeling that you’ve arrived somewhere worth lingering.

Tucked into the landscape at Kennebec, every detail of this home was designed to feel grounded, timeless, and deeply connected to its surroundings.

Seven pavilions, one unforgettable point of view. Bobby McAlpine’s home layers thatched roofs, dark timbering, steel windows, and carved wood into a world that feels both storied and entirely its own. Every structure opens to the landscape, where water, light, and weather become part of the architecture itself.

I design doorways more carefully than rooms. The doorway is the decision.

Bobby's Lake Martin home exists as seven thatched pavilions surrounded by water, a surreal world where timbering and steel windows, carved wood and raw planks, light and dark opposites energize one another. There's power when the permanent meets the perishable.
