⛈️The Tempest⛈️ by William Shakespeare
Directed by...ME?!

Stage Manager: @dana_aveta
Music: @kath_eich

It still hardly feels real, even though it's taken me several weeks since we closed to find the words to say how I feel. What a journey, that's for sure! I remember when this began last August as small backstage conversations and speculations about what the '26 season would be, and what if I directed? What would I want to direct? What shows are we due to bring back? And then reading The Tempest for the first time and deciding then and there it was what I wanted to direct. Hearing from CHP about submitting a pitch to direct. Then writing the pitch, and sending it amidst some very turbulent times in my personal life that almost made me feel too overwhelmed to follow through with it. And then finding out I would be directing! And then casting and prepping and scheduling and emailing and rehearsing and crisis managing. Feeling so natural and comfortable and yet so out of place.

And then we opened. And the entire almost-year's toil was all made worth it.

I'm still in awe of the way a million things came together to put forth a great production. More than just my role as director, Dana as stage manager, every actor's performance, but also wonderful costuming that took my ideas and ran with them. The way Kevin found a random stick in his yard and turned it into an iconic sorcerer staff. The way Gage and I worked together at his house to piece together the storm soundscape. The way Katherine arranged beautiful and hypnotic guitar parts for her songs. The way I got to have my first experience directing amongst professionals I've already worked with for so long, backed by a group of people who trusted and supported my work and my process and my vision. The way an ensemble of actors ranging from CHP veterans to first time Shakespeare actors mingled into a cohesive team over the course of rehearsals and performances. The way my belief in myself and in others resulted in a show that we all are proud of our part in.

Grateful doesn't even begin to describe it. Thank you all!
