Thank you just doesn’t feel like enough to express how incredibly grateful I am for everyone who came to celebrate my birthday with me on Saturday.

First, to Allison, Carmela, Jacolyn, Rachel, and Harold—thank you for coming together to plan this party and make my birthday dream a reality. You support me in every area of my life, and I truly don’t know what I would do without each of you. You guys are the absolute best.

And Aneta, you came all the way from San Antonio, stopping here on your way home to Virginia just so you could be at my party. What an incredible and special surprise. It meant more to me than you know.

But the greatest gift of the entire night wasn’t something I could unwrap. It was looking around and realizing I was surrounded by so many people I love and who mean so much to me.

You all make my life so incredibly full.

And somehow my friends managed to give me EXACTLY the birthday party I wanted: a kid’s birthday party circa 1979! 😂 Water balloon tosses, Hula Hoops, a piñata…and then, because apparently this is what my perfect party looks like, we followed it up with my kids’ band playing my favorite ’90s grunge rock.

Was it a slightly weird combination? Absolutely.

Did it make my heart ridiculously happy? YES.

Thank you to Will, DJ, and my two boys for making the music happen. There are very few things in this world that bring me more joy than watching my sons play music. Getting to stand there surrounded by people I love while listening to them play some of my favorite songs was pretty much perfect.

I wanted my birthday to feel like being a kid again—and my friends made that happen.

As I head into 50, I’m realizing more and more that the greatest gift in my life is the people in it. I looked around that party and felt overwhelmingly lucky.

This is what fills my cup. There is nothing I love more than going to concerts with my kids (especially the Foo Fighters). We sing at the top of our lungs, we know the words to every song, we jump, we scream, we live in the moment for 3 solid hours. Foo fighters are such amazing performers. 3 non stop hours of Rock n Roll.

It’s been different since Taylor Hawkins passed but @ilanrubin fills the gaping whole very well. No one will replace Taylor but Ilan is a better match than Josh Freese was. Can’t wait for the next one!!!

Not only do we have construction going on because we’re having the floors redone but we also have the boys playing in the new music room which will one day be sound proof but it sure as heck isn’t yet!! 🫠🫠

Truthfully though, I love it. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Well I could do without the zipper walls. Those can go on Thursday when the floors are done 🤣

Happy Mother’s Day! We had a lot of work to do to get ready for our closing on our old house on Tuesday but we managed to squeeze in church and brunch at the Country Club. Thank to my bonus son Boedi for going to church with me and joining us for brunch. Love you all!! 💐💕

Today my baby is 20! It’s the first time in 20 years that I won’t be with Carter on his birthday. He’s finishing up his semester in Nashville. I’m sad I won’t be with him but I’m so proud of the man he’s become. He is truly one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. He’s sweet, kind, smart, creative, talented, and genuinely a good person. He’s one of my favorite people to hang out with. I’m so glad he’ll be coming home and taking some time off from school to figure out what’s best for him. He’s going to do great things in this world I just know it. Please help me wish him the happiest of birthdays.🎈🎂🎉🎁
