Philly, if you’re looking for a way to volunteer, please check out @casa_philly. CASA of Philadelphia volunteers advocate for kids in the foster care system. They use the information they have gathered to inform judges of the child’s needs, best interests, and wishes. A volunteer does not have to be a lawyer or social worker, in fact our volunteers come from all walks of life and a multitude of backgrounds. What they all have in common is a desire to make life better for the more than 3,000 children currently in the child welfare system in Philadelphia. Becoming a CASA volunteer is an investment of time, energy and heart. And it is an investment that pays dividends for children who have been neglected and abused. Foster children with a CASA spend less time in care, receive more services, experience fewer out of home placements and have significantly improved educational experiences.

Philly: looking for a meaningful way to volunteer or donate?! Check out @casa_philly. CASA volunteers come from all walks of life and a multitude of backgrounds. What they all have in common is a desire to make life better for the more than 3,000 children currently in the child welfare system in Philadelphia. Volunteers receive training and ongoing support from the CASA Philadelphia staff. It’s an amazing program!

Note: I am not a volunteer- I just went to cheer on the volunteers and to get the word out there! ❤️

I joined CASA Philadelphia in celebrating their 20th Anniversary and two decades of powerful advocacy for children in the child welfare system.

Since 2006, CASA has trained and supported hundreds of community volunteers who serve as dedicated voices for young people navigating foster care. It was an honor to celebrate the incredible staff and volunteers behind this impact.

Additionally, Councilmember Landau and I were honored to present a resolution on behalf of City Council recognizing CASA’s lasting impact and continued commitment to ensuring every child has someone fighting for their future.

@casa_philly is a non-profit organization that trains and supports community volunteers as “sworn officers of the court” who advocate for the health, safety, stability and well-being of abused and neglected children in Philadelphia’s dependency court system.

A CASA volunteer is a trained community member appointed by a judge to represent the best interests of abused and neglected children who have been removed from their homes, placed in the foster care system and under the supervision of the Department of Human Services (Philadelphia County Children and Youth Agency).

CASA volunteers are adults, 21+ from all walks of life and backgrounds. No legal background is required. They are screened closely for objectivity, competence and commitment. Becoming a CASA is a major volunteer commitment and not something that fits everyone’s needs.

If you are a full time student or a current foster parent you will need to wait until these committments are completed before applying.

To learn more and decide if being a CASA is right for you, join them for an information session.

CASA volunteers undergo 30 hours of pre-service training that addresses courtroom procedure, effective advocacy techniques for children, and specific topics ranging from early childhood growth and development to adolescent behavior.

CASA volunteers are paired with a staff supervisor to support and guide advocacy efforts.
