Last Friday, July 31, students from San Diego State University and Southwestern College showcased the incredible work they accomplished during our Summer Undergraduate Research Academy Poster Presentations. 🎉

Over the past eight weeks, these student researchers dedicated themselves to learning, exploring, and conducting meaningful research. We are incredibly proud of their hard work, growth, and the confidence they demonstrated while presenting their projects.

Congratulations to all of our participants on an amazing summer ☀️

I’m excited to share that I’ve officially joined the @active_minds Active Minds Speakers Bureau!

I’m honored to attend to Active Minds 2026 Conference on July 16, 2026, in Washington, D.C. I look forward to sharing stories and strategies that advance mental health, inspire change, and help build communities where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported.

We all have a hero within us. 💙

Connection is why we’re here, but belonging is how we stay. 🤟✨

For my fellow “first-gens,” the chronic over-achievers, and the beautiful geeks who found their first “secured base” in the pages of a comic book or the world of a game—this one is for you.

In our classrooms, we often ask students to be brave, but we forget that courage requires a foundation of safety. We can’t ask for “wholehearted” learning if the environment doesn’t recognize the trauma many carry into the room.

That’s why I’m bringing Play to Belong (P2B) to the @wpastudentcouncil Western Psychological Association conference in Tacoma! 🏔️

We’re moving past the “sit and lecture” model and leaning into the magic of:

Fandoms & Comics: Where shared passion creates instant community.

Sandbox Play: Where we have the “permission to fail” and the space to grow.

Secured Bases: Using tech and play to create a trauma-informed container for deep, academic excellence.

To my future professors: Let’s build classrooms where being “geeky” is a superpower and where belonging isn’t earned it’s a given.

Are you heading to #WPA2026?
If you see me in Tacoma between April 30th and May 3rd, please don’t be a stranger. Come say hi, talk or share your favorite fandom! Let’s practice some “Action through Psychology” together.

Will I see you in the Pacific Northwest? Drop a ⚡️ or a 🎮 in the comments!

Talking about psychology through Star Trek with fellow nerdy academics at WonderCon 2026 March 27-29 feels like living in the best kind of alternate timeline. 🖖

From exploring the mind of Khan to imagining Starfleet Academy as a place where curiosity, ethics, and growth matter, these conversations remind me why stories and fandom are such powerful tools for understanding ourselves.

Grateful to share the stage with brilliant colleagues and an amazing Trek community. See you at the Academy.
