Soft Collapse (Insomnia for Beginners)
Artist Michikazu Matsune is brilliant at sleeping badly. His new work, made with performers Camilla Schielin, Evandro Pedroni and Julia Zastava, invites the audience into a shared space of curiosity, knowledge and exploration around the world of sleeplessness and troubles associated with our nightly act of (un)resting.

Soft Collapse (Insomnia for Beginners) gently dissolves the boundaries between wakefulness and slumber, opening up a poetic encounter with the restless moments that haunt our nights. Laden with quiet humour and thoughtful observation, the performance explores a reflective environment where insomnia becomes a lens to consider our human condition. Evoking subtle tensions between rest and unrest, the performance encourages audiences to reconsider sleep not just as a biological necessity, but as a richly layered terrain of imagination, vulnerability, and collective experience.

PW LIVE AT KUNSTHALLE WIEN

The summer solstice on 21 June marks not only the start of summer in the Northern Hemisphere, but also the longest—and therefore brightest—day of the year. Throughout “PW LIVE: In Living Daylight”, a programme of performances lasting several hours, curated by PW-Magazine in the context of the exhibition Lebt und arbeitet in Wien. Contemporary Art from Vienna at Kunsthalle Wien @kunsthallewien will unfold as the light changes. From morning until early evening, gestures, texts and sounds by Vienna-based artists of different generations will take shape between Karlsplatz and the Museumsquartier.

At the heart of the event lies the question of what it means to move through time together—on a day when attention wanders, intensifies and then disperses once more. “In Living Daylight” refers to life itself—the totality of what a body perceives, absorbs and carries: sound, movement, language, silence. The programme conceives of the day as a shared space of experience that can be entered and traversed.

21 Jun, 2026

The performances are free with a valid exhibition ticket (€ 14 / reduced € 11).
Limited capacity.
