Wave Ministry School is back together again Sunday night with the city of Ventura for a night in His Presence at @majestic.ventura.theater 🌊🕊️

We couldn’t fly all the way to Indonesia and not adventure.

And when I say “fly to Indo” I mean John and I left home and didn’t see a hotel bed for 45 hours. Forty. Five. Hours. 😂

Worth every single minute tbh.

Fortunately we were greeted by amazing friends with cold beer and local cuisine the second we put our stuff down. It was already one of the best days of my life and we hadn’t done anything yet.

After some much needed rest. It was on.

Ripping scooters an hour through the jungle to surf a world class wave. Infinity pools overlooking waterfalls. Hiking to multiple zones. Snorkeling crystal clear aqua blue water in the Indian Ocean. Wandering into the most random shops with trinkets I still can’t explain.

And I had the pleasure of eating a fish eyeball. Just gonna let that sit there… (tbh it was significantly worse than I was anticipating)

And drank poo coffee. Yes, literally. Coffee made from beans that passed through a civet. And I’m not even mad because it was genuinely the best cup of coffee I’ve ever had in my life. 😂

This trip was truly 1 of 1.

This past summer a group of us had the chance to travel to Indonesia to support a non-profit doing some of the most quietly powerful humanitarian work I’ve ever seen.

A wise man once said, “Help someone today that may never be able to repay you.” - @coachtag

Scripture says, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

The older I get, the more I want to actually live that. Not just quote it.

With so much division and noise in the world, I keep coming back to one question: what am I actually doing for people who can’t give me anything back?

Indonesia answered that question in ways I didn’t expect.

The kids at this orphanage had almost nothing by the world’s standards. No phones. No stuff. No distractions.

And they were the happiest people in the room.
Joy didn’t trickle out of them slightly, it burst. Laughter for hours. Dancing for no reason. Smiling at strangers like it was the most natural thing in the world.
It wrecked me. In the best way.

And don’t get me started with the Balinese hospitality, I’ll never forget it. People with so little offering everything they had the moment you walked through the door. No hesitation. No calculation. Just generosity as a way of life.

Side note: I’m severely allergic to peanuts. And peanut oil is basically a food group in Indonesia. 😂 So that last photo became my lock screen for the entire trip. I showed it to every single person who came near me with a plate. Saved my life multiple times. Probably confused a lot of people. Worth it. lol

But here’s what I brought home that no suitcase could carry:

Joy is not a circumstance. It’s a posture.
Dance and laughter aren’t things you earn when life gets easier. They’re things you choose while it’s still hard. Without a single word, these lovely lil kiddos taught me that.

Go find someone to give to, someone who can’t pay you back🫶🏼

We came up just short of a League team this summer. Huge props to all of the guys and girls who are playing, they fully deserve it and I know all the blood sweat and tears that go into being able to play on that level. Like always, there are way more players out there who deserve a shot at those opportunities and those moments and I pray that our sport will have more and more room as the years go on 🙏🏼 It’s always hard not to have your name get called - it’s a gnarly part of sports!! These are moments that can break you down if you lean into the dissapointment, or they can fill you with motivation to get up again. And even more importantly they can point you to the things in your life that endure every high and low, and that your real life is built on 🙏🏼 I’ve been so blessed to have a full life of joy around me anchored in Christ. And an unbelievable volleyball life so far!

There’s way more ahead to play and fight for this summer and I’ve already got a taste with my brotha @jack_walmer who RIPPED in Austin and is showing everyone how far he has come and what he’s gonna be for years to come! Me and @djklasnic have some work to do this weekend with @playhighline - and I’ve been fired up by his energy!! And the year has only just started for me and @timbomgren - we’ll be all over this summer and I’m so blessed to be on the court with one of the best players and friends to ever do this.
