Title: Katabasis Author: RF Kuang —-—————————————— Star: ⭐⭐⭐ ——————————————— This review has taken months (and the birth of a child) but I really needed some time to digest. Having read the masterpiece that was Babel, Katabasis as a dark academic book seemed right up my street. Kuang is a strong storyteller and world builder, which brings me back to her books time and time again. What’s not to like about a PhD student intent on getting a recommendation from her supervisor that she goes to hell (literally) to get it. If you’ve ever spent some time in academia, there are some funny nuances that will hit home. Our protagonist Alice has to use her magick skills gained at Cambridge to follow Prof Jacob Grimes to the underworld, but her journey through each circle leads us to new challenges and horrors. Alice is joined on her Hellish journey by her nemesis Peter, who I really enjoyed as a character. Alice has sacrificed everything to gain Prof Grimes approval, but is it worth it? Their journey with nothing but Dante’s descriptions of Hell, tales from Orpheus and some magic chalk is a long winded one. The pacing of this book is off in many parts, however I really enjoyed the first 30% of this book, but honestly by the end of it I was just glad it was over. This is an ideal book for someone into dark academia in your life, who may enjoy it more than I did! #bookstagram #irishbookstas #BSCReview #darkacademiavibes #booksbooksbooks

We’re ready @sarahjmaas 📚 We’ve officially finished our reread of ALL the Sarah J. Maas books just in time for the next ACOTAR book! 🌙✨ From Prythian to Erilea and back again, we’ve laughed, cried, fallen in love with Hunt, Cassian, Rhys, Chaol and Dorian. We’ve had our hearts absolutely destroyed, and remembered why we’re obsessed in the first place. 😂❤️‍🔥 Now we’re officially counting down to October and the next chapter of the ACOTAR world 🌙🦇✨ Bring on the theories, the chaos, the screaming, and hopefully some answers😭👀 #irishbookstas #bookstagram #sarahjmaas #sarahjmaasbooks #acotarseries

Title: Dear New York Author: Brandon Stanton ———————————— Star: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ———————————— When I heard this book was finally in the shops, I ran out to get it! This book is definitely a photographic love letter to his love of New York City and the people in it. I’ve been following his books for many years (Humans of New York is my favourite!) and have always enjoyed getting an insight into the everyday life of people in New York. This book includes a prologue and nearly 500 pages of portraits and stories, over 75% of which have never been published before. We see people just starting out up to successful professionals; of all ages, genders and races. This book really gives us a glimpse into the life of people on the street and Stanton really captures their personalities and stories in such a captivating way. If you’ve been a fan of Stanton’s books and New York, this book will really be ideal for you! #bookstagram #irishbookstas #BSCReview #newyorkcity #brandonstantonphotography

Current Read 📕✨ Currently reading Boys Don’t Cry by Jamie Laing 📖 Didn’t expect this one to hit as hard as it does, but it’s such an honest take on vulnerability, masculinity, and actually feeling your feelings instead of bottling them up. It’s refreshing, a bit raw, and definitely thought-provoking. Taking my time with this one ✨ #bookstagram #irishbookstas #currentlyreading #biography #booksbooksbooks

Title: Photo Finish Author: Elsie Silver ———————————— Star: ⭐⭐⭐⭐️⭐️ ———————————— This is the second book in this series, involving Violet (the horse groomer) and Cole (Vaughans brother). Violet begins to work with the horses on the ranch as a groomer and jockey. When an accident happens, she’s forced into rehabilitation and faced with living with Cole, who’s moved back to the ranch to sort this family’s finances. Back in her early 20s, they had an online friendship/relationship which fell apart; being forced to deal with each other in the present day. As Violet recuperates and Cole deals with his own personal issues, they fight so hard not to be with one another. These two have their own issues but they find love in a hopeless place; Vaughan being the army veteran with a soft heart and PTSD and Violet dealing with family and gaining credibility in a male dominated field. In this book we get to see more into the relationship between Vaughan and Cole and what’s been the catalyst in their less than brotherly love. There is some amount of spice in this book series but especially in this book. I really enjoyed this book, especially the small characters like Stefan, Patrick, Mira and appearances from Hank, Billie and DD. The image of Violet, Billie and Mira sitting in the field drinking wine from the bottle, talking about men and shirtless Cole was an image I won’t soon forget! #bookstagram #irishbookstas #BSCReview #romancebookstagram #romancebookrecs

Title: Off To The Races Author: Elsie Silver ———————————— Star: ⭐⭐⭐⭐️ ———————————— I’ve been recommended this book by so many Elsie Silver fans so I’m finally sitting down to read the first book in the Gold Ranch series. When Vaughn’s grandfather died, following a horse rigging scandal, his brother Cole is annoying him to help change the businesses image; focusing on the main business rather than the ranch. Billie is brought in as a horse handler/rider to by Hank, the ranch manager, to help the ranch win some competitions and improve their reputation. They immediately have a love hate connection but they both want to prove to each other that they can do this. There’s some spicy scenes between Billie and Vaughan and they work hard to get DD the horse to win races and he’s almost the cause of some sad situations near the end of the story. I loved this book mainly for the enemies to lovers trope, cowboy romance but it’s written partially from a female trainer’s POV. I was rooting for DD the horse from the beginning and I’m glad he turned into such a softie! #bookstagram #irishbookstas #elsiesilver #bookcommunity #romancereadersofinstagram

Title: The Tenant Author: Freida McFadden ——————————— Star: ⭐⭐⭐⭐️⭐️ ——————————— We meet Blake, who’s a recent homeowner and VP of a marketing firm, who suddenly gets fired. With his fiancé Krista, they decide to take in a tenant , Whitney, to help make ends meet. Whitney works at a local Greek restaurant and jumps at the chance to take a room. When Blake and Whitney have a small argument, things start going wrong in the house, Blake has his eyes set on Whitney. From leaving rotten food in the fridge to using fabric softener he’s allergic to, to putting lipstick on his shirt, he’s had enough. When faced with new information and threats from all angles, Blade makes some grave discoveries. This book brings you on a journey of terror, horror and adventure. I hated hearing that Goldy the goldfish was killed for the sake of an argument. The relationships and deception between everyone kept me on my toes. I definitely one of the best books I’ve read from Freida McFadden! #bookstagram #books #bookstagrammer #irishbookstas #irishbookstagram #bookcommunity #bookcommunityofinstagram #booksbooksbooks #BSCReview #thrillerbooks #thrillerbooksaddict #thrillerbookstagram #freidamcfadden #freidamcfaddenbooks
