POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Some weeks ago, we set a long table inside our Substation building and welcomed friends of FAI, old and new.

The evening featured a performance by Immanuel Wilkins @immanuel.wilkins and Melvin Gibbs @melvingibbs presented by Ars Nova Workshop @arsnovaworkshop , food catered by Caphé Roasters @capheroasters, and cocktails from Lovers Bar @theloversbar, the cocktail bar from the team behind Friday Saturday Sunday @friday.saturday.sunday.

A small glimpse of what’s taking shape.

Thanks to all who joined us. More to come.

Meet our wondrous Selection Committee for Art Works 2024! Our committee is composed of community advisors, civic leaders, artists, curators and select principals and staff—We look forward to announcing an amazing cohort of grantees later this fall. Swipe left to meet each jury member.

Art Works is a $3 million grant program in partnership with the Philadelphia Foundation (@philafound) designed to support community-based artists, collectives and organizations who are working in partnership with Black, Brown, Indigenous, people of color (BIPOC) and historically under-resourced communities. Visit the link in our bio to read more about the program.

Celebrated one year in business with an open mat. Couldn’t be happier with the turn out.

Had people from 5 different schools on the mat, a very nice gift, 2 old friends, 4 black belts, and an unbelievable spread from @granrodeomontgomeryville

Looking forward to continuing to build up the Real Thing Lansdale crew.

Real Thing Jiu Jitsu is turning 1 year old. To celebrate I’m holding an open mat on Sunday June 25th at 10AM.

Open to all schools and affiliations. If we’ve ever trained together or just crossed paths out in the wild, you are invited.

There will be food from and drinks afterwards. Come through, check out the spot, meet some new people, and hang with old friends.

Very happy with the turn out for our first open mat. Had friends from @precisionjj and @precisionjiujitsusm come through. Also had Professor Steve make his triumphant return to the mats.

I was promoted to black belt on Saturday by Rob Scheier. It has been a goal of mine for some time and means a great deal to me to get it from him. I am very proud to be a part of the environment he has built at Precision. It is something I hope to emulate with my own students. Thank you to everyone at Precision and everyone I have trained with over the years. @realthingjiujitsu @precisionjj

A Retrospective Year in Review: In the beginning of 2021, I left some semblance of financial security and comfort behind at my old job to dive Scrooge McDuck style into my own production company, although I admit it feels like I’m limping towards the finish line of 2021.

I’ve learned so much, messed up along the way, left money on the table, and realized that the amount of learning I have in front of me just hurts my brain to think about.

But what progress I made I really couldn’t have without everyone that helped me, hired me, and especially those that lent their spare time (for free) so I could shoot a passion project solely for practice. I’m grateful for all of you. It’s weird to be the “owner” and yet the only “employee” in a company of 1, but still have people constantly willing to help.

The last 12 months were a trip, I hope the next 12 are better, and I plan to do this shit until I’m 70. Cheers!

Welcoming back @philly.nash with black eyes, broken glass, blood, and a preschooler showdown (just for a hot minute, then there were lots of hugs).

How was your Saturday?
