July 28th 2024. 2 years ago.cricket in the rains , something I’ve done a 1000 times before . 3 runs needed of the final over . Easy peasy I thought to myself . I tapped the ball and set off for a tight single . The ball got to the fielder faster than I had anticipated and so I had to put in longer strides to get to the popping crease .And that’s when it all went wrong . A puddle awaited my arrival.SKID.SLIP.AIRBORNE.THUD.Next thing I know,I’m on the floor,the pain so excruciating that It reduced my cries of anguish to a whimper.The players came rushing.Followed by my staff and then My wife . She shrieked in horror seeing my left shoulder blade popping right through my t-shirt .She was 7 months pregnant at the time and the first words that came out of her mouth were ‘how are you gonna hold our child !’ And in that moment something happened.Something Beautiful.Holding my child became my only Goal.The pain subsided to somewhat manageable proportions . The immediate future didn’t seem so bleak . I didn’t victimise myself thinking why me why now ! Instead my inner voice completely changed the narrative to - ‘Tanuj you finally got yourself a scar(which the wife finds sexy) , playing a sport you absolutely love , at the same turf where you got married just a few months back and all of this is gonna make you look real badass when your little kiddo grows up.And the icing on the cake is you are gonna get to experience an Operation Theatre first-hand and be totally prepared for when it’s time for your wife’s delivery !Can it get any better !And from that moment onwards everything got easier.I adapted to the new normal . It didn’t stop me from promoting my show,attending awards,travelling,my wife’s baby shower and most importantly getting ready to be a dad.As they say what doesn’t kill you,only makes you Stronger.And today I feel stronger both mentally and physically,ready to tackle anything that life throws my way.Coz as Rocky Balboa once said-‘it ain’t about hard you hit , it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward . So just keep moving forward . No Matter what.AMEN!
