Writing is an inherently lonely profession, and writers are highly prone to loneliness. (Medical diagnosis, fr)

I’ve been searching for community since I started out. I’m a pack animal.

But all around me I noticed it: guarded, competitive, holier than thou, gatekeeping, what’s in it for me? Me me me. Ego. In India, in Europe, in the commercial industries, in the elite auteur circles, everywhere.

This is not the way we grow. The only way is to grow together.

Because that It Takes A Village stuff… it’s also true for filmmaking.

And nobody wants to be a villager here, either. You have to be ready to be inconvenienced : go out of your way to help someone for nothing in return. To be honest with yourself and each other, vulnerable and open to critique, to lend an ear, a shoulder, a pat on the back, a whoop on the ass, a clink of the glass, notes on your script, reality checks, plan Bs, side quests… anything that helps you keep going.

Be honest with yourself, are you doing this with your colleagues around you? Have you reached out and offered support, and asked when you needed it?

Try it. Start a WhatsApp or IG group. Host dinners or movie clubs or outdoor adventures together. It helps. I moved continents for it :) 10/10 would recommend.

Thanks to my wonderful community here, and those not pictured you know who you are - you keep me going!

Danke BERLIN, Thank you NIPKOW @berlinfilmresidencies, Gracias AMIGOS, it has been an unforgettable experience! Discovering wonderful places and people, visiting dear friends, screening “My Aunt Gilma” for an incredible audience, marveling at Berlin’s history, culture, and art, and returning with my project more solid than ever, full of motivation and knowledge to continue developing it. This has been one of my best experiences of 2025. I am so grateful to everyone. I wish you all the best for this new year! 🙏🏻❤️🥰
