🧇 Aug 30th…! A year ago today, I had the opportunity to open for the great @ajmcqueen and @arielj.music at City Winery Philadelphia.

This was a helluva moment for me. For my growth and for the resume. That year was my most active year of performing, from Los Angeles to Chicago, and being able to bring it back home to Philadelphia for a soldout show at City Winery, felt special.

Lol it was already sold out before I got the shot, so I wasn’t able to get the homies in 😂 but in return, I got to meet an entirely new audience of varying ages with so many people sharing their appreciation for my voice and what I had to offer.

This show will always remind me to trust and believe in what I’m sharing, to always shoot the shot, and to never stop grinding. It also reminded me that there are dope, genuine artists shining in their own light who still make room for others to make their mark alongside them.

AJ personally handpicked me to join him for his Philly stop, and I was floored by how intentional he was about giving me the opportunity to evolve with him for a night I’ll always remember. You know I had to hook em up with some @dotdotdotart …! Shouts out to his squad, with a special thank you to @justjamila_ for the hospitality and coordination, and to the gifted @iamkriscameron for also lookin out with some of these captures of my performance…!

A special special thanks goes to my homegirl @cassidy.janaee for being an internal support and for capturing such dope photos of the event, and my dawg @aceadelic for being there to capture the personal footy of the night…!🙏🏾

there’s a certain weight that comes with a gifting that’s given from the Lord and it can be easy to fall back into the ways of the world to “get far” but the Lord promises fulfillment and success when we seek Him first, not worldly ways.

i also know how uncertain it can be to walk in entrepreneurship and a creative calling because it’s not conventional, we are often doing so much back end work that many don’t see and it’s easy to get on our own way, but if God has equipped you and called you, there’s do doubt that you won’t be successful in all that you do.

quitting my job and pursuing all my creative endeavors felt scary but i was able to push past the fear because i knew the assignment i’ve been called to and WHO called me to it.

i still deal with fear and anxiety around my business, around being vulnerable online to a certain capacity and building visions from scratch but at the end of the day i know if i was given a burning desire to complete certain tasks from the moment i wake up to when i close my eyes, i know it was placed inside me from the Lord to complete and that’s how i still create even when i’m fearful.

to all my creatives/business owners who know deep down they have that mission, don’t let your gifts go to waste but don’t forget where your blessings come from🤍

building my photography business on the foundation of the one who sustains me is so important

i really sat with God last year as i felt very stagnant within my business about the direction He wanted me to go and as i fasted, He made it very clear to start planting seeds within my couples by praying for them during client calls as well as the day of their union. the thought was scary at first, but my heart always feels so fulfilled knowing i’m being obedient to how the Lord has called me to be a light of the world in my journey of entrepreneurship🫶🏽

all of my couples receive the utmost amount of love and support from me through every step of the way during their wedding process and i’m thankful and honored to be apart of their story🫂

honoring the Lord with my photography business He’s allowed me to have by praying over my couples🥹🫶🏽

there was a season when i was fasting for my business and i asked Him how he wanted me to start to incorporate my faith into my photography because i was feeling so stagnant where i was at with it and i knew deep down it was time for a “rebrand” but with God this time

during a 3 day fast last year, He spoke and said “pray for your clients” and specifically over those that were walking into their engagement and marriage season because this is an area the enemy loves to attack the most. i knew God had been transitioning my heart to photograph weddings so hearing this from Him didn’t surprise me

when the Lord spoke to me about this, it was so nerve racking at the thought of asking people i barely knew to pray for them and worried about how they would receive this question, but at the end of the day even through the fear it still made sense why God gave me this revelation

being blessed with a creative eye, a desire and longing for love and a heart for people and speaking life into others, this is exactly how i knew the Lord wanted me to make a shift in my business a year ago

as i’ve grown so much in my relationship with the Lord, praying for my clients no longer scares me but the thought of NOT praying for them does when i know this is the ministry God has called me to and how my prayers could be the exact covering they needed as they stepped into this covenant

so to my creatives & business owners, you don’t need to be on a pulpit—your creative gifts ARE your ministry🤍

if you were to ask if i’m content in my single season i would tell you yes but to say that i don’t wonder, get anxious or maybe sometimes even doubt if my time is actually coming would definitely be false. i often ask the Lord if i’m doing something wrong, am i not in alignment or am i causing my own delay and although that can be true during certain seasons, oftentimes we are doing EXACTLY what we need to do and that doubt is only the enemy wanting you to believe that you heard God wrong and that there’s no way you could be worthy of love.

the enemy HATES love, especially as it’s centered around Christ because God says love is the source of all. so best believe if you are preparing your heart, spirit and body for a love that centers God, you can guarantee the enemy will do anything to attack that area the most, especially if God has called you to a kingdom marriage that will be a ministry.

fear and anxiety is not of the Lord and i’m sure as a believer in Christ we know that, but that’s not to say those feelings won’t creep in. when they do it’s okay, don’t panic but take that as the time to be honest with yourself and most importantly be honest with God (He already knows you feel this way), so it’s okay to tell Him!

He created our emotions, our deep feelings and desires—tell Him your fears, express your doubts and go to Him with curiosity (He invites questions), but be sure to replace those doubts with God’s word.

our single season is not a curse ladies! if anything it’s a blessing as we get to pour into ourselves, spend time with the Lord alone and draw further into our kingdom assignments. two things can also exists at once—being content in singleness while also deeply desiring romantic partnership, please don’t shame yourself for coexisting feelings🫂

God did not create us to be alone so your feelings are normal. if you find yourself asking the Lord “but when?” just know that He hears you and sees you and is preparing a love for you beyond what you ever saw for yourself.

my current rotation🎧

i’ve been refining my playlist to music that i can still vibe, dance and feel good to but doesn’t leave me feeling convicted at the end of the day

music is one of our biggest influences whether we admit it or not so if you’re on your walk with Christ and are trying to wean off secular music but feel as though you can’t listen to music if it isn’t “worship” music then i gotchu sis🤍 (or brother in Christ lol)

don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t follow the Lord and reshape your lifestyle and your daily habits and it be “boring”

you don’t have to kill your soul to feed it🤏🏽

you can find my playlist on apple music (no spotify yet) under “christian r&b/rap” by cassidy janae✨ i’ll link the playlist in my story for ya!

as you can see some artists are repetitive in here cause they’re so😫🤏🏽but feel free to drop in the comments which of these songs you like or other recs you have!

i FULLY understand the 9-5 cycle-consistent pay & for some of us we may be making money we NEVER thought we would touch, but with the 9-5 cycle comes burnout-not just physically but spiritually.

when God chooses US, those that are called will feel sustained in a 9-5 only but for so long until our time has come and God gives you the nudge to leave and asks you “do you trust ME?”

we can either ignore the Lord’s nudge when He qualifies us to step out in faith OR we can have faith, do it scared but TRUST His direction.

sure, working a 9-5 is comfortable for many of us, but when the Lord has given you a divine assignment, no money or comfortability of a job will ever satisfy your spirit-trust me i know, i’ve been there. you can try to ignore and justify staying because the job is providing for you, but just as easily as God gave you that job He can also easily take it away because He sees more for you!

the unfortunate part is that you are replaceable to these jobs but you aren’t replaceable in the Kingdom and if God gave YOU a gift and a passion, then it’s meant for YOU and only YOU to fulfill it.
if you are currently in this season where you clock in & out but with each bank account deposit you feel yourself drifting further and further away from where you are truly being pulled to? then maybe just maybe the Lord is trying to get your attention that your season where you are at is up and now it’s time to step into your assignment.

i was at my 9-5 feeling completely beside myself— drained in every way, desiring more for my life but not sure if God was actually telling me to leave my job quite yet until He finally spoke. a year ago i left and pursued my photography business FULL TIME but that doesn’t mean it was all rainbows (1/2)
