Wake up, walk over, get in.

This is home! Since 2022 we have lived here on Madarao, enjoying all seasons, all year round. (We miss you, Myoko.)

We can't say enough good things about Madarao. It's jokingly easy to get to from Tokyo, the main situation most of us live in—1h45 on the bullet train and a short 20-min ride up the hill. Super duper easy peasy. Lake Nojiri is only 15 minutes down the hill. Myoko is down the way. Nozawa is around the corner. Nagano and Joetsu City are nearby for the big essentials. Snow monkeys, Togakushi, Togari, the Yudanaka ryokan village, Obuse; we are painfully fortunate to be where we are.

John settled on this mountain when resident big sender YMB (Young Master Bradley) gave it the seal of approval, just after coming off a steep-pitch approved tree run. Little did we know, moving from our ancestral Myoko home to Madarao, that the sidecountry and backcountry would be SO. UTTERLY. DELICIOUS.

It's been a lot of work settling in here and building a community rather than going the traditional route! And some days, it's just frozen muck. But most days it's awesome.

A little more of what we got up to this fall, video courtesy of @idonov. The fall season was a big ramp-up in energy and effort, and the magnitude of how much we took on would only really set in a few weeks later as we hit a lot of technical challenges and organizational challenges!

First (rideable) snow of the 24/25 season! We got the crew out, some who had never actually seen this much snow ❄️❄️❄️

Also it was the very first snow experience for our beloved @cassieofthecastle_

We've been jamming on renovations hard for some time, but especially since June; here is one of a few updates on how we're shaking down this 40+ year old concrete building into a home for our community! (And hopefully the first of many.)

Plus, this is the first reel update to feature beloved new family member @cassieofthecastle_ ❤️❤️😺❤️❤️
