#AusArtDay is here and Constance is raising funds to continue our work making space for artists in Lutruwita / Tasmania!

When we say space we mean both 𝕡𝕙𝕪𝕤𝕚𝕔𝕒𝕝 𝕤𝕡𝕒𝕔𝕖𝕤 and 𝕤𝕦𝕡𝕡𝕠𝕣𝕥𝕖𝕕 𝕠𝕡𝕡𝕠𝕣𝕥𝕦𝕟𝕚𝕥𝕚𝕖𝕤.

🏛️ Constance’s site-less model demonstrates our commitment to pushing the boundaries of where art can happen. Art galleries are the least interesting spaces we inhabit; our projects are inextricably responsive to place and utilise sites from shipyards to water fountains, carparks to science laboratories, and RSLs to aboriginal community land.

🐣 Constance works in quiet and unexpected ways to create opportunities for emerging and early career artists, acting as a key stepping stone in the trajectories of diverse art careers. By making space for artists to take risks, form community, fail, build confidence and explore new ideas, we make innovative and experimental art possible in Lutruwita / Tasmania.

For over 20 years Constance ARI has been doing the invisible work that allows artists to make visible work. As a registered charity and one of few ARIs in Lutruwita / Tasmania, Constance is indispensable to local and national arts ecologies. We make space for artists both through supporting the early stages of their careers, and through activating unconventional sites for arts projects.

Very privileged to have this work of mine shown with @marsgallery at the @melbourneartfair back in March this year! It sat alongside artwork from amazing, incredible First Nations artists: @cassiesullivan_._ @georgiaboseley___art @jenna.mlee and @damienshen 😋🌀 Such a proud moment for me!

Also a few little extra pics of @nicholascurrie and @d4darcy with Nicks works that were also at the art fair 🙂‍↕️🤭🤗 yippee yahoo!

Introducing the next artist-in-residence at Gunyah: Cassie Sullivan @cassiesullivan_._ . She is a Lutruwita/Trouwerner First Nations, queer artist based on Melukerdee Country in Lutruwita/Tasmania. She has a responsive practice that crosses disciplines of sculpture, moving image, photography, writing, sound, installation, and printmaking. Cassie works with a deeply considered process driven practice that prioritises a multi-sensory engagement with Country. She explores themes of intergenerational experiences that reside in bodily memory and the ancestral memory of water. Within her creative and cultural practice, Cassie works to constantly question what can be imbued through materiality to give voice to complex identities.
“... Site specific practice is important to me and I am drawn to the proximity of water to the studio. During my residency at Gunyah I plan to conduct a slow collaboration with the waterway and surrounding lands of Gathang Country, forming a deeper conversation. I will build on my exploration of a visual documentation of water having ancestral memory through listening, recording, writing, and developing a visual language around this conversation. ...”

All images courtesy the artist:

Gunyah artists-in-residence program is located on Gathang Country, the Ancestral Lands of the Worimi People. We acknowledge them as the traditional custodians for this place, land, sky, and waters. When artists come here to develop and share their own creativity, storytelling and cultural practices, we respect the knowledge embedded forever within First Nations Custodianship of Country.

Celebrating NAIDOC week with a visit to @milduraartscentre for a print workshop with @movingcreature
Witnessing the wrapping up of the incredible journey that Between Waves has been on these past few years. It was an honour to yarn with these works again and I will miss the conversations they have amongst each other.
