2020 for all that you showed us, I thank you.
Thank you for showing us that the systems we were living under had to be faced head on and dealt with now so that we don’t continue harming each other for another 400 years. Thank you for highlighting the inequities in our country so powerfully that they can no longer be ignored. Thank you for showing us the truth about the people we’ve chosen to have in our lives and for giving us the opportunity to evaluate those choices and make space to bring more love and joy into our circles. Thank you for showing us our strengths and weaknesses and reminding us that it’s okay to ask for help and okay to ask for space. Thank you for giving us the chance to look at ourselves and be reminded that even though we may not have control over our circumstances we are in control of how we respond to them and therein lies great power. Thank you for reminding us about what is most important in life, forcing us to slow down and giving us the time to contemplate how to make changes in service of prioritizing the important things.
.
2020, like any other year of my life you weren’t easy. You brought pain, sorrow, joy and laughter. Too many of my loved ones have lost people they loved; and too many of us have dear ones who are struggling in various ways. We also saw many new lives enter the world, people commit themselves to one another through love and care for each other in the most creative and innovative ways I’ve ever seen. With the great disappointments we’ve seen in humanity there has also been unprecedented beauty.
.
2020 taught me many things and forced us all to face a lot of truths we were too complacent to deal with. I pray we take the lessons 2020 taught us into 2021 and beyond. So today I will rejoice in the beauty God gave me in 2020 and no matter what happens in 2021 know that He always gives beauty for ashes and that love and beauty only shine brighter in the midst of darkness.
