part of the series »Recursion«
one line drawing, pigment inkjet print on rice paper
110 x 82,5 cm, 2024

»Recursion« shows the back and forth translation between the analog and digital spheres, condensed in a one line drawing. An anticipated bodily movement of a car drive, a drive as a co-driver, and a recounted run are represented in digital maps, which are transformed back into movement in a one line drawing on an Ipad. Like in traditional calligraphy, it’s aiming for the perfect stroke in the here and now. The difficult task is to capture the full body movement of the drawer on a relatively small surface of the drawing tablet. Three selected digital pens with varying qualities and limitations are physically touching the glass surface of the tablet, bridging the analog and the digital – for a slight moment even merging the two realms. In a last step the drawings are printed on a digital rice paper, showing the pixels of the drawing pen, sitting on the texture of the rice paper.

🌹I love @levelup_uk & the joy that underpins our work! ❤️ Meaningful liberation work & feminist power-building has very little to do with the noisy, frantic posturing & politicking so endemic to social media. It’s the careful strategising, invisible gruntwork (nobody’s gonna applaud you for spreadsheets or coordinating meetings!), thinking together, disagreeing together, learning, loving, solidarity & growing that truly builds a contagious, revolutionary magic through the ways we work together and sustain our movements. Also recognising that naps, laughter & rest are a crucial part of resistance 😜

Today had me thinking about this Mia Mingus quote: “Commit to finally learn that the ends do not justify the means. How many times do we have to learn that how we do the work is just as important as the work we do?”

I’ve learned that commitments like that only really work in spaces where *everyone* is committed to being intentional & revolutionary at every step, and that’s what I love about these feminist legends, it’s what I love about @carysafoko for the precedent and culture she visioned for the organisation, and it’s what I love about working with @mollyrosebellack & @kelseymxmo on workshops ❤️🥰💫❤️🌹
