Listening back to this episode a couple weeks after making it, I think it was an exercise in finding peace. Didn't think of it that way at the time but it makes sense to me now. Drift away for an hour with sounds by Wednesday Knudsen, Don Slepian, Jorma Kaukonen & Jack Casady, Yoko Ono, Thomas Dinger, Ghost (japan), Roberto Musci, Rob Noyes, Windy & Carl and Dominique Lawalrée. Produced in Pittsburgh, then aired from the barn in Cambridge Springs, PA originally on 10/4/25. Painting is by myself and made of watercolor, ink, and gouache. Hope ya dig! ✌️

those who know dominique lawalrée's work rightfully go utterly gaga for it, but if you're unaware, this comp of early private-press works courtesy of ergot & catch wave is a more than worthy initiation. music is rarely this honest, served by its pure economics, offering subtly complex melodic figures by way of synth, piano & organ adorned by little more than the occasional flourish of percussion/flute/voice. in spite of its limited means lawalrée's music feels infinitely expressive, so plainspoken as to feel almost voyeuristic from a listener's perspective. as with other works of its ilk, its reputation has accumulated over the years is certainly served by context -- adored by those in the know and otherwise previously forgotten by all others -- but as with other veritably special 'white whales' (the recent colette roper being an apt point of comparison both for the lore and its candid majesty), the context is redundant, the open-hearted approach and pure innocence here says more than enough. universal music, plain and simple.

The music made by Belgian composer on the late 70s and first 80s have remained almost hidden until 2017, when the NYC based label released the compilation “First Meeting”. This archival release culled some of the most interesting compositions made by Lawalrée and available as part of 4 of his albums. Some of them were about to be released on Eno’s imprint, Obscure Sounds, but finally it never came to fruition. Sounds of piano, synthesizers, percussion, wurlitzer, organ, and voice, are all performed by Lawalrée. It’s like the piano notes gallop in slow motion in this compositions, sounding nostalgic, intimate and most of the times soothing. Like if Erik Satie had a record produced by Brian Eno. Lawalrée had an experience in 1994, and since then to 2019 when he died, he passed her days playing organ in the church, liturgical music sometimes composed by himself. First run, from 2017, went sold out, and in this 2022 we had first a beautiful tape reissue (expanded with some extra material than the 2017 original) and later a clear vinyl one that is not the best sounding in my collection, although Im very happy to finally own. You have some videos as usual.

ブリュッセル出身の宅録アンビエント作家Dominique Lawalreeがプライベートレーベル【Editions Walrus】から1978年〜1982年にかけてリリースした4枚のアルバムから厳選された自身初となるアーカイブ作品が到着。

過去にBrian Enoのレーベル【Obscure Records】からのリリースが検討されていたという逸話も有名な本作。ポストクラシカル的なピアノをベースにシンセ、打楽器、ウーリッツァー、オルガン、声によって構成されたミニマルアンビエント。過去の記憶を思い起こさせるような少し切なく可愛らしい独特の旋律が反復しながらゆったりと展開していきます。

エリック・サティの影響を受けたという "Musique Satieerique "では、シンプルなピアノの反復音とオルガンやフルートによる構成でサティへのオマージュを表現しています。Rashad Beckerがリマスタリング、インサート付属。限定500部。

アンビエントファンはもちろん、Robert Haighの諸作品やLeo Svirsky、Miauxなどが好きな方にはたまらない音◎◎◎

Some months ago and after hard internal deliberations, I decided to go for a tape deck player. I still love vinyl records, its my favorite format for multiple reasons, and it will be, but some interesting music have only tape releases. Tapes were the format I I started discovering music with. I remember to go to CD rental stores to record on TDKA SA tapes. I went everywhere with my portable tape player, and I changed tapes for cd-mp3, almost skipping CD players. Im really happy with the sounds and how beautiful this technics player, same age than me is. Now that we have worldwide problems with vinyl records manufacturing and prices went crazy (average 20EUR is now 35EUR, don’t look for this stat, its only my perception), so for some records tapes could be an option. I will be showing some of my tapes, but wanted to start with this beautiful piano record. “First Meeting” is a 2017 compilation with some of the recordings this Belgian musician made by the end of the 70s. Now it was released on tape in an expanded edition with some extra tracks. Then, I wanted to know what you think about this old format. Are you buying? Are you willing to buy?
