$Thank you to everyone who joined us for Faces of Long Island, our first Missing Persons Awareness Night & Vigil. Together, we gathered to honor those who remain missing, support the families living with ambiguous loss, and remind our community that every missing person is more than a statistic. We were honored to hear from Tiana Heath, producer of Missing on Long Island; Jahaira Campozano of Safe Harbour Nassau-Suffolk Counties, who spoke on the intersection of missing persons and human trafficking; Dr. Farjana Khan, who shared insight on coping with ambiguous loss; and members of the Rotaract Club of Shining Stars, who led our community reflection, interfaith prayer, reading of the missing, and candlelight vigil. We honored 10 active missing persons cases. Yet these 10 represent just a fraction of the more than 139 long-term unsolved missing persons cases on Long Island, over 1,000 active missing persons cases in New York State, and the 90,000 to 100,000 people missing nationwide at any given time. A missing person is someone’s child. Someone’s parent. Someone’s sibling. Someone’s friend. Thank you to every speaker, volunteer, family member, advocate, and attendee for helping us ensure these stories continue to be seen, heard, and remembered. Awareness precedes change. Until they are all home. 💜🤍 #FacesOfLongIsland #MissingPersonsAwareness #BringThemHome #LongIsland #Rotaract$
