I’m wordy lately - bear with me: I grew up in a small house with 5 other people and a dad who was extremely sensitive to sounds, among many other things, so it was never in the cards for me to pick up a musical instrument. In fact, I had a conversation with my older brother recently and he concurred - when band class started up in 5th, 6th grade, we Guas didn’t even ask our folks if we could join. It was a given that it would be a ‘no’. Bummer, but such is life. I was safe and fed and clothed and had two loving parents.

Anyhoo, I have a theory that I grew up a frustrated wannabe pop star, but without the drive, tools or guidance to follow through, and I transferred my creativity into the much quieter visual arts. Still no tools or guidance to steer me, but they were so supportive of my talents - they just didn’t know what to do with me. As I grew and moved out, I got a guitar or two and tried to learn, but I never really did.

Fast forward to 2013, and one of my early art collectors and a collector of guitars, Ben, gifted me a #FenderTelecaster out of the blue. I’m still dumbstruck by the generosity. He knew Prince played a Tele-type guitar and just felt I should have this one. Wow.

Then Catherine got me a white #CloudGuitar for my birthday in 2017. Blew my damn mind.

Then my good buddy and LPP fan from day one, who also happens to be a Cloud Guitar aficionado, Gordon, gifted me a yellow cloud!! What!?

And the most recent, the Wendy Melvoin Rickenbacker replica from (another) Ben. Out of the blue. To what do I owe this great fortune? Seems the universe has been sending me messages for a while, so I guess it’s time I listened and start playing these things. Thank you is an incredibly weak expression for the gratitude I feel.

Posted in stories and too cute to not share here. This little doggie with a gold chain is a Christmas gift for my kids from their auntie and uncle. At first I didn’t give the gift any thought. Then my daughter asked if we could put it on the dash. I paused and then said yes. As soon as she got in the car she stuck him right there. Then we started driving and his little head wobbled, then the kids named him, “Junior,” then I fell in love. I love driving around with him. I feel like I have a literal sidekick and I just want to play music that is the soundtrack of his life.

Now the kids are with their dad until 12/28. The first year they won’t be with me on Christmas Eve/Christmas morning. And Junior and I will be rolling around, looking at lights, listening to Christmas music and waiting for them to come back so we can do second Christmas! Santa is coming to our house on 12/28!

But seriously, when I am not in the car with Junior, I will probably be a little sad. What do you divorced parents do to help ease the heartache of waking up without your kids on Christmas morning? 💔
