CATHERINE VERMAUT

The sober surfaces of the clothing, pure, minimal and without detail, confront the expressive, distinctive faces. The resulting works are simple and almost naïve, but at the same time they have a strong visual and emotional impact.

Recurrent themes include vulnerability, transience, youthfulness and the loss of it. Working away all excess material to reach the minimum of an image, and there, in the drawing, finding the subject complete, the image intact. The balance that gives rise to life and motion, the silence unimpeded.

Catherine lives and works in Desselgem, Belgium.
We are honoured to show Catherine‘s paintings at Affordable Art Fair Brussel!
