Culture is not a side issue. It is a critical infrastructure for democracies.

After 3 days at the BONN SUMMIT, one conviction stands out: today’s ecological, democratic, cultural and geopolitical crises are deeply interconnected. The many insightful – at times moving, at times staggering – contributions offered a stark assessment of the polycrisis and its consequences for culture and democracy.

Bringing together voices from across the globe – from Germany, Poland, Belgium, Austria and Slovakia, Ireland, Ukraine and France to Mexico, Brasilien, South Africa and the US – the Summit showed how widely these concerns are shared. Our Swiss delegation joined as attentive and engaged observers.

Among all the powerful perspectives, two ideas particularly resonated with us:

“Empathy is a competence and must be trained. We have to practise critical thinking as well as empathic thinking: critical empathy. We need to build infrastructures of empathy.” – @dominikakasprowicz, Director of Villa Decius in Krakow

«Pessimism is a luxury that we can’t afford. We need intersectionality on all levels that not only breaks down systemic silos but connects minds, bodies, souls and hearts – to imagine new realities.» – @kuminaidoo, Founder of the Global Artivism Movement and President of the Fossil Fuel Treaty

Culture as critical infrastructure must embrace empathy and creative thinking as collective practice – embedded in our institutions, collaborations and decisions.

For @vertlefutur.ch, this is both a powerful takeaway and a concrete mandate.

Thank you to the @bundeskunsthalle, all contributors and our wonderfull fellow delegates for these intense days of learning, questioning and connecting.

Next stop: Bonn!

After attending the Green Culture Festival 2026 in Karlsruhe, we’re off again — this time to Bonn: 10 invitations, 10 complementary perspectives and one shared ambition to build lasting cultural alliances across Europe.

After sending our first Swiss delegation to attend the Green Culture Festival 2026 in June, a second delegation initiated by @vertlefutur.ch – Alliance for Sustainable Culture, with the generous support of @prohelvetia , is heading to the Bonn Summit, 16–18 September.

Under the motto “Cultural Forces for Open Societies” the Bonn Summit brings arts, culture, academia, politics and civil society together to strengthen open societies through new alliances and shared strategies.

We’re going to listen, learn and connect: comparing contexts, spotting gaps, meeting future partners and turning ideas into action — for sustainable, resilient and democratic cultural infrastructures in Switzerland and across Europe.

10 invitations, 10 perspectives, one shared journey. Special thanks to @jacob_bilabel and @aktionsnetzwerk_ Nachhaltigkeit in Kultur for opening this little space-time window — and to @prohelvetia for making it possible. ✨

Thank You and Goodbye

Dear friends,

What a weekend. What a season. What a year. And what a wonderful time.

We would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the past twelve years.

At the end of this month, we are both leaving Tanzhaus Zürich: Catja Loepfe (Director of Tanzhaus Zürich) and Inés Maloigne (Head of Communications). Saying goodbye is not easy for us, as you have all grown dear to our hearts.

We look back on an exceptionally rich period – rich in dance, choreographies, performances, workshops, training sessions, residencies, courses, sharing sessions, meetings, drinks receptions and much more.

Above all, however, this time has been rich in encounters. With you. With all the people who work, dance, create, watch, experience and build community at the Tanzhaus. You have shaped the Tanzhaus and made it what it is today.

Our thanks go to the entire Tanzhaus Dream Team, the Nude Team, all the artists, teachers, choreographers, production managers, our audience, our funders and foundations, as well as the City and Canton of Zurich. We would also like to thank our network and cooperation partners for their trust and support.

Thank you for being part of this shared journey.

We hand over this dancing steamer on the Limmat to our successors, Lisa and Guillaume (co-directors) and Joëlle (head of communications), with great confidence and deep appreciation. We wish you joy, inspiration and energy for everything that lies ahead.

See you at Wasserwerkstrasse 127a.

With warmest regards,

Catja Loepfe and Inés Maloigne
