☎️ HMCI continues to work with the Cayman Islands Cadet Corps to build emergency management capacity within the National Emergency Communications Centre (NEOC).

Last month we hosted a one-day WebEOC/NEOC workshop, with both theoretical and practical training for members of the Cadets who support the NEOC as call takers. The NEOC is an important channel for receiving and recording information from members of the public during an activation. Call takers may receive non-emergency reports, requests for assistance and other information that can help inform the overall emergency response.

The participants were introduced to the NEOC structure and trained on the web-based emergency operations software (WebEOC). The session concluded with a practical exercise in the actual NEOC Call Centre, where cadets handled simulated calls based on real experiences from previous emergency activations.

We look forward to continuing to help develop the knowledge, skills and experience needed to support effective emergency response and strengthen the resilience of the Cayman Islands with our partners.

Proud of Team DPSC! 👏🏽

Last Thursday, our team had a fantastic time engaging with students at the CIFEC Career Fair and showcasing the many different sides of public safety communications. From 9-1-1 and Electronic Monitoring to Radio Communications and the National CCTV Programme, it was a great opportunity to give students a closer look at the technology, people and work that help support public safety across the Cayman Islands.

We were also very pleased to have the Deputy Governor and our Minister stop by to say hello and show their support. A big thank you to Ms. Liza and our planning team for coordinating the event, and to every member of Team DPSC who helped make our booth interactive, welcoming and fun.

Events like these are about more than recruitment. They are about opening young people’s eyes to careers they may never have considered and showing them that there are many ways to serve their community.

This past week, we had the pleasure of celebrating the fathers of DPSC and recognizing the important role they play both within our department and at home. Following our Mother's Day celebrations earlier this year, it was another opportunity to pause, connect, and simply say thank you to the incredible people who help make this organization what it is.

I am especially grateful to our Wellness Team for once again going above and beyond to create a meaningful event for our staff. Their passion, thoughtfulness, and genuine care for the wellbeing of our people never goes unnoticed. Time and time again, they remind us that building a strong department starts with ensuring our staff feel valued, appreciated, and supported.

To all of our fathers, and to the mothers we celebrated earlier this year, thank you for your dedication, sacrifice, and commitment. Public safety is what we do, but our people are who we are, and I am incredibly proud of the culture we continue to build together at DPSC. 💙

On Monday, 16 June, 2026, members of the community gathered outside the Governor’s House, for the Cayman Islands King’s Birthday Parade and Inspection, a proud display of service, discipline, and national pride. 🇰🇾

The ceremony brought together uniformed services, Government leaders, and community members to honour service to the Cayman Islands. The event also featured the annual parade inspection conducted by Her Excellency Governor Jane Owen.

The Ministry of District Administration and Home Affairs was proud to witness the dedication, professionalism, and commitment displayed throughout the parade by the many individuals and organisations, especially the Cayman Islands Cadet Corps (CICC), Cayman Islands Fire Service (CIFS), and His Majesty’s Cayman Islands Prison Service (HMCIPS), that work each day to help keep our Islands safe, resilient, and strong.

Thank you to everyone who participated, attended, and supported this important national occasion.

Last week the Cayman Islands Regiment welcomed the new UK Defence Attaché to the Caribbean, Lieutenant Colonel Dack, based in Jamaica, for his first official visit to the Cayman Islands.

During the visit, the Defence Attaché (DA) was briefed on the Regiment’s strategy to achieve Full Operational Capability by 2030, while Regimental staff received updates on planned UK support across the region, including preparations for this year’s storm season.

The DA attended Regimental training, observed capability demonstrations as the Regiment prepares for storm season, and joined in celebrating recent promotions. Lieutenant Colonel Dack also attended a hosted dinner with H.E. The Governor, DG, DG (Designate), Minister DaCosta, and agency heads; visited the Cayman Islands Coast Guard; received a briefing from HMCI to better understand how the Regiment and partner agencies come together to respond to major incidents; conducted an aerial tour of the Islands with RCIPS Air Operations; and gave an interview to The Cayman Compass (thanks for the photos!)

The close relationship between the Cayman Islands Regiment and UK Defence strengthens the Regiment’s access to training, expertise, and regional support, further enhancing its mission to protect the people of the Cayman Islands by strengthening national resilience and supporting civil authorities. A better trained and better equipped Regiment contributes directly to a more resilient Cayman Islands.

We look forward to welcoming Lieutenant Colonel Dack back to Grand Cayman in August for the Cohort 5 Pass Off Parade.

30 volunteers. 2 hours. 705 lbs of trash off our shoreline at the George Town Yacht Club. 🌊

Watching 33 bags of debris leave the beach is the best kind of Saturday morning. Huge thanks to everyone who spent their morning with us!

The Road to 10,000:

We’ve set a massive goal to collect 10,000 lbs of trash this year. Here’s where we stand:

Jan: 1,615 lbs
Feb: 191 lbs
March: 705 lbs
(+ 171 lbs from our canal cleanup!)
Total so far: 2,682 lbs

We’re over a quarter of the way there, and with Earth Month coming up in April, we’re ready to level up. We have a special Earth Day cleanup in the works—stay tuned for details. Let’s keep taking care of our island. 🇰🇾✨

Our Ministry was honoured to stand with the nation at Monday’s ceremony, celebrating Caymanians whose courage, service, and vision continue to strengthen our islands. We add our congratulations to this year’s National Recognition Awards recipients and proudly acknowledge the designation of our newest National Hero, Benson O. Ebanks, OBE—a legacy of leadership that inspires the work we do every day.

Representing the Ministry of District Administration & Home Affairs, Hon. Nickolas DaCosta, JP, MP joined honourees, families, and partners to pay tribute to those who laid—and still lay—Cayman’s foundations. Chief Officer Michael Ebanks was also on the ground, ensuring the Ministry’s presence and support were felt throughout this memorable and honourable day.

For our portfolio—across public safety, national security, district administration, border control, offender management, postal services, youth development, and more—National Heroes Day is a reminder of why we serve: to protect our communities, to uplift our people, and to help build a safer, stronger Cayman across Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman.

To every award recipient and to all who support them behind the scenes: thank you. Your example challenges us to keep raising standards, deepening collaboration, and delivering world-class public service for these islands we love.
