this was from jack’s account: “after a long bout with cancer, and various other cruel health challenges, ruth passed away this morning in her brand new home on her favorite scratching post. ruth came to us from the streets of brooklyn and, bizarrely enough, made a home in minneapolis. every second of her fight was pursued on her own terms. in her short time with us, she left an indelible mark. she taught both, us history and world history, on zoom, ate onion rings from peter lugers when we turned our backs for one second, helped ensure that landlords wouldn’t secure any more unearned income when my therapist made her my emotional support animal, and watched every episode of her favorite show, the sopranos, at least three times. along with marrying sara, adopting ruth—my first pet—was one of the best things i ever did. having her in our lives was truly transformative. she made me more patient, content, tolerable, and funny. she made me less solipsistic and taught me about a radical kind of love. i love you so much, ruth. thank you.”
