chlo now is all grown up and off to college soon 🥹 a letter to my girls who are going off to their freshmen year of college… 💌 God is your good Shepherd, and He has already prepared people for you to meet AND love so much. People who have loved you so deeply, but you won’t realize it until the semester ends with tears in your eyes. People who will cry with you when you feel lonely, smile because they get to see you, laugh with you until your stomach hurts, and eat with you in silence when you run out of things to talk about. But it’s all in God’s timing as you sift through the people you meet. Don’t be afraid to cry when you feel lonely. It gets lonely. But know that you are not alone in it. Reach out to someone, because honestly, the girl down the hall probably feels the same way. Reflect on your values. You get to decide who you become. Don’t let random people distract you from becoming your best self and building the future you want. The people you surround yourself with WILL become a reflection of you. No matter how confident someone may look or act, they are likely more insecure than you think. Honestly, no one really cares about the things you may find embarrassing about yourself because they are too worried about feeling the need to fit in themselves. Don’t try to fit it. That’s high school. If you don’t want to do something, don’t do it. Define what fun means to you. Fun should be enjoyable, life-giving, and something you can look back on without feeling like it contributed to your downfall. Say yes to spontaneous activities. Surround yourself with people who don’t grumble and complain. There are so many people on campus, and you are not bound to those whom you first meet. Say hi first. If you forget someone’s name, just ask, “We’ve met before, but can you please remind me of your name?” Initiate, but find peace in the truth that every closed door is protection from God. Open your eyes and seek the Lord. Seek to see His goodness in your life. Thank Him every day for what you have. I was too busy looking up and asking God to fulfill my expectations that I didn’t look around me. It led me to miss out on the blessings God had for me this whole time.
