Even cowgirls get the blues. Just a few of the faces I’m lucky to love—2025 the year of the tightrope…still en route— plenty of room for error. Now get fucked 2025 🐍 happy new beginnings. “May you be surrounded by friends and family, and if this is not your lot, may the blessings find you in your solitude.” Cheers Mr Cohen

Currently on display in Sanderson’s Emerging Artists Exhibition 2025 is Coco Coleman’s ‘Part of the Family’

Coleman is a sculptor and installation artist based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. The artist recently completed a Bachelor of Fine Art degree at Elam School of Fine Arts and has a background in textiles and furnishings design.

Coleman’s featured artwork ‘Part of the Family’ is a pair of chairs that take on a poignancy - a presence with an absence. They are a gesture toward the bodies they wait for but do not hold. This sentiment drives the artist’s practice; rooted in weaving, writing, and design, where objects transform into conduits of connection and memory.

This ongoing project is a love letter to the artist’s late grandmother Joan and an adored poet David Berman. It envisions a place where two kindred spirits, who never met in the mortal realm, might encounter each other. Though Joan and David could not attend her grad show, Coleman ensured they had a place to sit, converse, and be remembered.

This exhibition is curated by Li Si Rong
