A season ago, Central Catholic coach Roger Canepa failed to produce a 1,000-yard running back for the first time during his long tenure along Carpenter Road.

The talent was there. It just needed time to grow and get healthy. Now, Canepa believes we might be watching one of the best he's ever had.

Senior Zymir Nelson rushed for 213 yards and three touchdowns in last week's victory over St. Bonaventure, one of the top teams in the state. He averaged 9.3 yards per carry, punishing defenders with every burst forward.

For his efforts, Nelson, a team captain, is this week's Athlete of the Week.

Talent can get you noticed, but your daily habits determine how long you stay at the top.

Working out, stretching, eating healthy, staying hydrated, sleeping well, and recovering the right way are all part of becoming a complete athlete. You can’t expect your body to perform at its best if you don’t take care of it every day.

One of the greatest examples is **LeBron James**. More than two decades into his career, he’s still competing at an elite level because he has consistently invested in his body. His commitment to training, nutrition, mobility, and recovery shows that success isn’t just about what you do during the game—it’s about what you do before and after it.

I’m building those habits now so I can keep improving for years to come. Great performance starts with great preparation. The work never stops! 💪🏽⚾🏀🔥

The work nobody sees is what makes moments like this possible. 🙏🏽⚾️

Through the first five games of the NCS World Series, our **CenCal Stix are 4-1**, and today we have the chance to win **two more games and bring home a championship.** That’s what we’ve been working for all year.

Personally, I’m **9-for-11 (.818)** this tournament, and I’m still hitting **.625 over my entire 42-game season.** I’m thankful for every opportunity to compete, but these numbers are just a reflection of the work.

This means so much because I know what it took to get here. The **4-5 practices a day this summer.** The **2-3 practices a day for the past 8 years.** The early mornings, late nights, the reps when nobody was watching, and choosing the grind while other people were relaxing.

I trained myself to **love doing hard things.** The days that once felt painful now feel like the most rewarding part of my journey. That’s where confidence is built. That’s where championships are earned.

No matter what happens today, I’m grateful for my teammates, coaches, and everyone who’s believed in me. But we’re not done yet... we’ve got two more to go. Let’s finish what we started. 💙⚾️
