Meet Cecelia Olszewski (she/they), a senior majoring Composition and Arts Administration, who developed a piece of music, "Unseen Presence," that translates elements of Andrew Wyeth’s life and artistic process into musical techniques. Funded through an SURG, they traveled to Wyeth’s hometowns of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, and Rockland, Maine, to visit the Brandywine Museum of Art and the Farnsworth Art Museum, as well as the Andrew and Betsy Wyeth Study Center to identify elements the artist deliberately omitted or altered in his work. Cecelia observed Wyeth's process up-close by examining and discussing the Center’s extensive archival materials.
Cecelia's "Unseen Presence," performed by Northwestern's Contemporary Music Ensemble (CME), premiered in the Galvin Recital Hall this past fall.
