As I get older I see my birthday less as a celebration of another lap around the sun and more as a time to reflect on the year that was, take stock and set goals for the year ahead. I believe we manifest things into reality (good/bad) and by focusing on where I’m at and what I want to achieve helps me to dial in my ambition and bring in the good stuff.
Last year was a biggie. I met my soul partner Kimberly, we got married, I became a “Papa Bear” to EE, we bought a house in the mountains, and had Moses, our baby boy. Having a partnership that deepens every day that requires me to grow and think about the unit rather than my immediate wants makes me better at everything I do. It’s not perfect, it’s not supposed to be, but it’s my biggest priority and my proudest achievement. Our business @jacktaylorpr is 10 years old! I’ve always been a bit arrogant about work, I thought we were as good as we could possibly be, and only now I realize how much better we get and how much room there still must be to grow. I’m so proud of my team, and of our clients and grateful everyday that I get to work on things I believe in. @cerro.gordo.ca, our ghost town in the mountains. What a journey. We bought CG 2 years ago today! It’s humbled us in every way. Sure, hardly a week goes by where we don’t get featured in a top publication. But we’ve had constant financial pressure, been snowed in for weeks (well, Brenty was), had a fire that took our beloved American Hotel and have had to pivot our strategy more times than I can count. Still there’s never been a better time to be in the ghost town biz. the community has embraced us, volunteered, dropped off supplies, raised money, and even defends us online (lol). we’ve never announced a date when we might open, but get 100s of requests to stay every month. This is not typical, we know what we have here, and are more dedicated to this now than ever before. Life unfolds at different paces that have no bearing on linear time. This past year was a warp zone in almost every category and I’m so motivated and excited to see what is around the next corner. Love you bye.
