I worked at Blockbuster until it closed. Then I worked at Bauhaus until it closed. Currently looking for a third company that starts with a “B” that I can ride into the ground.

Another #SundaySpins coming at ya. Doomtree’s ‘Self-Titled’ from 2008. I’ve been spinning a lot from the Doomtree crew all week, and this one just doesn’t let up. All time indie hip hop album.

my 333rd post (for now anyway) is something very close to my heart… in july 2011 one of the best ever mashup mixtapes was released. a fusion of 2 incredibly influential groups: wu tang clan and fugazi - here’s a short ish clip of it’s sheer brilliance/greatness. (credit: cecil otter/swiss andy)

This month I started healing again. Went to go see some of the greatest lyricists @livinglegends on the 6th and got completely infected. In the best way. You know when you know you love something, then you really get to experience that thing and your love for it grows? That’s what happened with @thegrouch and @therealeligh this month. Goddamn. The space you guys take up and the intention, perspective, voice, and mantra that portals its way through your human vessels is something that needs not go unheard and unseen. “What used to be underground, now it’s known” yes. If you’re struggling right now or in a music drought, please I urge you to go explore their discographies extensively. I went to see Living Legends like I was going to see the fckn Beatles. The Grouch is my favorite—like Ringo —and specifically because of very important details in my life. Just thank you for making music. And @luciasloannnn you be the reason for this…you know why.

Anyway, I’m constantly trippin over music, how it transcends borders, the people that make it, the message, and when certain music hits harder at times. Very unsure why I was always stuck on Making Perfect Sense for years. That doesn’t make any sense…It actually does though…

Thank y’all for your wise words and your mantras.

And if you’re scared, go to church. 🙏🏼

And shoutout @atmosphere … my most listened to artist of 2024. 💌

I’m really excited that this album is out. It started forming several years ago and took a lovely shape as it flew away. Thanks @tommy_loves_michelle_still @iruderman @motchmoller for trusting me to contribute drum ideas and mix the thing. Thanks @cecilotter for your fine tuned perspective on arrangement and sounds. Thanks @huntleymiller for your utmost attention to balance.

We’re gonna play a lot of these songs tomorrow at @icehousempls and the lighting will be just right. I hope you come and see what I mean.

Ever wonder what happened to @doomtree ?
•
My college roommate introduced them to me in 2008, and I’ve been a fan ever since. Recently I got to interview music producer @lazerbeak from the crew who was an original member and arguably the heart and soul of the whole squad. Not only did he produce a ton of their music, but he also had a hand in everything they did including merch design, managing their online presence, booking their shows, and everything else that goes on behind the scenes.
•
A full Doomtree album hasn’t came out in a long time, but all the members of the crew have stayed busy putting out music as solo artists and through their own side projects with other collaborators.
•
Here’s a clip of Lazerbeak explaining what everyone has been up to so that you can go binge music you didn’t know existed from some iconic Minnesota artists.

1. Getting weird in the Redwoods on tour.
2. Doing back-up vocals from the @firstave garage.
3. Soundcheck somewhere. Never scared.
