There’s a reason I tear up every time I hear this song. Because sometimes you don’t fully recognize God’s goodness until you look back and realize He was protecting you, refining you and preparing something better all along.

Two years ago, my entire friend group fell apart. And to this day, I still don’t fully understand why.

And to make it worse, I wasn’t even given the courtesy of a conversation. There was no opportunity to talk things through, ask questions, or understand what had happened. The fallout affected multiple friendships, and I quickly realized that a lot of the people I thought were my friends really weren’t.

It was one of the most painful things I have ever experienced. I put up walls. I questioned every relationship in my life. I pulled away from almost everyone because it felt easier than risking that kind of hurt again.

About eight months later, God brought the most amazing person into my life.

We both say it’s the most “God-ordained” friendship either of us has ever experienced. For the first time in a long time, I didn’t feel like I needed to keep my walls up. Around that same time, God also took another friendship I’d had for years and strengthened it in ways I never expected.

Now we all do life together regularly, and true friendship has taken on a whole new meaning for me.

I now know what it feels like to have women who genuinely root for you. Who celebrate your wins without competition. Who show up in the hard seasons. Who pray for you and with you. Who speak life over you, point you back to Jesus, and love your family like their own.

Looking back, I can see that God used one of the loneliest seasons of my life to redefine what friendship was always supposed to look like.

Sometimes a loss makes room for something healthier. Sometimes the heartbreak teaches you what you should never settle for again. And sometimes, God answers your prayers with the kind of friends you didn’t even know existed.

These days, I’m less interested in having a lot of friends and more interested in having the right ones. The kind that make you love Jesus more, feel safe to be yourself, and remind you what genuine friendship was always meant to be ❤️
