And just like that… three weeks in Scotland, a run of MIDSUMMER!, and the inaugural season of the @centerfornewwork are in the books. 🥹🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿✨ There really is nothing quite like the @edfringe. Three weeks surrounded by artists from all over the world—seeing theatre, making theatre, wandering Edinburgh, eating and drinking VERY well, laughing a lot, and getting to share all of it with people I adore. Not a bad way to spend August. Bringing MIDSUMMER! to the Fringe with @playonshakespeare was a pretty wonderful way to close out the Center’s first season. What started as an idea about creating more opportunities for new work, collaboration, and meaningful connections between our @cmudrama students and the professional field somehow brought us all the way to Scotland. Mostly, I leave feeling incredibly grateful for the people who made it happen—to our partners at @playonshakespeare; our Center family @brannonbowers and @annahanson; our wonderful collaborators @jeffwhitty @kimweild lucasfedele @randykovitz; and this truly fantastic group of young artists who worked hard, took care of one another, embraced the adventure, and represented @cmudrama beautifully. We made a new play. We took it across an ocean. We did the Fringe. And somewhere in there, we made a whole lot of memories. A very happy ending to our first season—and a trip we won’t soon forget. ❤️ MIDSUMMER! 🧚🫏✨ Presented by CMU Center for New Work & Play On Shakespeare in the @assemblyfest BIJOU Spiegeltent Playwright: William Shakespeare Modern Translation & Adaptation: @jeffreydamnielwhitty Director: @kimweild Assistant Director: @matiu.kereama Choreographer & Intimacy Director: @feduculis Fight Director: @rndykvtz Dramaturg: @mary_mag29 Production Stage Manager: @abbybru14 Stage Manager & Fight Captain: @reigh596 Lighting Design: @jadamsnotlighting Costume, Hair & Makeup Design: @brij_costumedesign Scenic & Prop Design: @grapefruit1119 Sound Design & Original Music: @rachel__laurence Technical Director: @elem625 CAST @celiaevanz @christian.trimmingham @elistr123 @jakainyasia @logan_yao_ @moyoifafore @rustyodaniel @siahvashb Suri Noelle @mid_131

Last week we hosted our second @playonshakes workshop, welcoming back playwright @jeffreydamnielwhitty and workshop facilitator @chrisalbright425 to work with the student cast and team that will be bringing this 90-minute A Midsummer Night’s Dream translation to life. We spent three days charting through Jeff’s recent script, creating the dramaturgical roadmap for the summer production which will preview here in Pittsburgh before it transfers to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Flip to the end to see our charting journey! A huge thank you to the @studioforcreativeinquiry for hosting us, and to director @kimweild for being our fearless leader throughout the process. More information about Midsummer! and how to get tickets at the link in our bio! #jeffwhittysmidsummer
