A great source of inspiration for my bachelor's thesis is the work of @celiapym , a London based artist, whose work is all about imaginative mending. I had the chance to meet her ar the @ihm_handwerksmesse this spring where she held a workshop on mending socks and showed some of her beautiful work. She demonstrated how mending could not only be a necessity but also a way of connecting with other people and the things we own in a fun and easily accessible way.

OHIO's Trisolini Gallery will be an active mending workshop for London-based artist Celia Pym's interactive exhibition "Mending" from Oct. 19 through Nov. 6. 🪡 The exhibition will feature her work "Rolf's Sweater" and "Family and Friends Mended Socks" and as the exhibition progresses, repaired garments will fill the gallery's walls. Attendees are welcome to bring their own garments for repair, which will become part of the exhibition and be returned to their owners at the close of the show. 🧦 🔗 Read the news at the link in bio! Markey is proud to present 'Things We Carry', an exhibition of mended paper bags, collected from Celia’s daily life.⁠ Originally used to carry everything from pastries and bread to parsley and buttons, the bags have been torn and worn through use, then carefully darned and patched back together. Their repair celebrates these everyday objects, giving new life to a material designed to be discarded.⁠ ⁠ 'Things We Carry' will be showing at L.F. These photographs are from a residency at Cove Park in 2016, where I was developing new work for a solo exhibition at Koppe Astner later that year. I spent part of the residency teaching myself eco-dyeing, experimenting with plants, fabric, colour and all the unpredictable things that happen when materials are allowed to behave in their own way. While I was there, I met the brilliant Celia Pym, @celiapym, who was taking part in the craft residency. We became friends and have continued talking about each other’s work, and all the other things that interest us, ever since. Last year, with support from Creative Scotland’s Open Fund for Artists, we were finally able to begin a more deliberate conversation about working collaboratively. It is slow and ongoing. We don’t yet know exactly what it will become, which might be the best bit. For now, it is time spent looking, talking, exchanging ideas and noticing where our practices meet. Ten years on, I’m thinking about how a residency intended to develop one body of work also began something else entirely. @creativescots @cove_park @kendallkoppe.gallery

The Forgotten Her Story is excited to be part of the Braemar Literary Festival, in collaboration with The Queen’s Reading Room, taking place from 25–27 September. Here, discover the conversations featured in the first The Forgotten Her Story book – exploring craft, womanhood, memory, and the art of the handmade. Joining the conversation will be @celiapym, the self-described “Damage Detective,” who finds beauty in things that have been worn, damaged, and mended; @sarahwght, British puppeteer and puppet director, and founder of the @curiouspuppetry; and @cathgoodman_studio, artist, educator, and co-founder of the Royal Drawing School with King Charles, whose expressive paintings move between figuration and abstraction. A huge thanks to @celiapym for a magical three day course @westdeancollege. You were asked to bring something personal to work on. I brought a scarf that I bought for my ex husband many moons ago. I thought he looked terribly dashing and erudite in it - I think mainly because it was 100% cashmere from @paulsmithdesign you know 😉. Several years later I had learnt that whilst Paul Smith is clearly erudite, wearing his scarf does not maketh the man and the scarf had become a metaphor for our relationship - full of holes, tears and rents. I decided to repair the scarf in the same way as my life since being married to my ex-husband has repaired - and to bring the scarf back in line with that - darn full of joy and love. A huge thanks to the wonderful women on this course with whom we shared side splitting laughter, quiet contemplation while stitching and all whilst putting the world rights. Thanks mostly though to Celia who was the most inspirational, kind and wonderful teacher. . . . #celiapym #darning #healing #joy #tassels

• Repair your clothes, don’t replace them. Repairing our clothes is one of the simplest ways we can extend the life of a garment while keeping it out of landfill for a little longer. In our eyes, repaired and beaten-up clothes often look better than something crisp and almost too perfect. The fading, damage, patches and repairs tell the story of where a piece has been and how it’s been worn. The images here are a reminder that we should celebrate these imperfections rather than seeing damage and immediately thinking, “That’s it, they’re done.” Sometimes a repair can give a garment a whole new chapter.
