Since moving to the Hudson Valley, Celina McAleer has been one of those people who has made this music community feel like home. She is an incredibly kind, generous person, and getting to know her through the scene and through her music with Meow Meow has meant a lot to me.

Last night, Celina’s car was broken into in Poughkeepsie and an enormous amount of the gear she depends on for both her livelihood and her music was stolen.

Her professional makeup kit, lighting equipment, cosmetic tattoo machine, custom-built tenor sax, the alto sax she’s played since childhood, microphones, wireless gear, in-ears, and more were taken. Some of these things represent thousands of dollars of professional equipment. Others carry years of memories and sentimental value that no amount of money can really replace.

For Celina, this isn’t just gear. Her makeup work is her livelihood, and this happened during peak wedding season in the Hudson Valley. Her instruments are also a huge part of who she is as a musician, including the music she makes with Meow Meow that I’ve been lucky enough to experience and support since becoming part of this community.

Celina has shown so much kindness to me, and I know I’m far from the only person in this scene who can say that. It hurts to see something like this happen to someone who gives so much of herself to the people around her.

A GoFundMe has been started to help her replace what she needs so she can get back to work and keep making music. If you’re able to contribute, please do. If you can’t, sharing it is a real way to help too.

The Hudson Valley music community has meant an incredible amount to me since I moved here, and Celina is one of the people who represents what I love about it.

Let’s show up for her.
