The first Theophobia album. Honestly, it's hard to pinpoint exactly when this whole thing started. The initial seeds were planted in 2019, when Dylan and I first started the project called Theophobia and wrote many of the early songs. This was followed by several false starts and misguided attempts at making our big record. Method after method, failure after failure. The vision was there, but we didn't have the means or the experience to match the ambition. It simply wasn't time yet; it took years of writing, performing, rehearsing, fucking up and meeting like-minded talented people with passion and drive equal to our own to even begin to make it a reality. Then it took three more years. Three exhausting--but often joyous--years of seeing our big ideas through with great care, thought and a certain degree of mania to create what we had long envisioned as a big colorful musical smorgasbord (Jerry Lewis, 1983). When we first started this band, it was difficult to imagine people outside the two of us being involved. Who, we thought, could possibly understand our shared creative language? Who could commit to the project without ultimately prioritizing school or work or more conventional music over our very particular brand of campy rock/pop? While we do still have a very special bond, it's a miracle beyond words that we found those people. I'm talking about musicians who have honored our material beyond compare -- Chris Michaels, Alan Worm, Michael Butterly, Nick Cereola -- approaching each song with zeal, personality and creative arrangement ideas that jump out of the speakers. I'm also talking about our producer and recording engineer Paul Millar, who truly pulled out all the stops for this record and imbued it with his own love of cartoony musical madness. Let's not forget our backup singers -- Teresa Hui, Alle Norton, Jay Henry -- and auxiliary musicians -- Nate McManus, Atira Chaya, Kaitlin Wolfberg -- who approached our wacky music with the utmost sensitivity, respect and enthusiasm. Last but not least, thank you to @insecurityhits for believing in this record and giving us the chance to share it. Go listen to it right now!!! ♥️✌️🤡
