book review: Time of the Flies by Claudia Pineiro.

genre: literary fiction, translated fiction, crime literature
page count: 356 pages

notes:
15 years after killing her husband’s lover, Ines is released from prisión. She spends her new life working for her own company, FFF, as a fumigator set on eliminating pests and problems. Life should be simple now, until one of her clients has a strange request.
More than a piece of crime fiction, Piñeiro delves into women and motherhood from a new lens.

thoughts:
It’s no secret Piñeiro is my new favorite author, and this story lived up well to the hype I give her. This one was slightly more crime fiction than her other work, and the natural suspense and questioning of her writing was absolute perfection. Her character development of Ines was so good, the way she writes imperfect female leads is my absolute favorite and Inés was no different, entertaining but real, flawed but trying. But not only did this read as a piece of compelling crime fiction with great characters, in typical Piñeiro fashion it also read as a commentary on womanhood and motherhood. I love her musings and the way her books just make me think. I will forever be her fan and can’t wait to read more of her work.

it was overall a great month!! 4 of my 5 reads were nearly 5 stars, it was hard to rank them because I loved them all so much but Time of the Flies (thank you for the gifted copy @charcopress), The Dragon Republic, Elysian Fields (thank you to the sweet @twilagingerich for the gifted copy) and Boulder were all some of my all time faves and I really loved them. I read Heaven with my book club and most of us enjoyed it but didn’t love it and I felt the same. There were quite a few books I started this month but didn’t finish by the end of the month, normally I would rush to finish but honestly, why rush!?

I’m excited for my September TBR, I think it’ll be a great month, have you read any of the books on my TBR??
