I'll keep my 2025 wrap up contained to the karaoke realm.

In Fall of 2024, I took two online voice lessons as part of my vulnerability journey and a gift to myself to heal some childhood insecurities – invest a small amount of money, have a man on a screen across the country tell you "yeah there's some stuff we could work on, but your voice is totally fine".

I asked for a karaoke setup for Christmas (adult things), and that started a year of doing monthly Sad Bangers karaoke nights at my house.

Last night we had the 2025 karaoke season finale, and it was a night of joy and hollering and newfound shaker skills.
I get so energized by these things. I love being a welcoming and joining force, gathering people in my home and feeding them cute little snacks like a mom who has her shit together, and seeing new bonds form over shared music taste. I have so much love for everyone who has joined me in my home and brought their unique energy to the space, from the small cozy nights to the big ones that overheat the room.

My wish for everyone is to have more spaces where you can be vulnerable and free, around people who will cheer for you even if you forget the words, the video freezes, if you go off pitch, or even if you don't want to sing!
Who cares!! Do more silly things with your friends.

Stoked for more community connections in 2026 and more time spent honoring the things that bring us joy.

colorful new jobby, seeing artists do their mf THANG at shows, sending off friends and reuniting with ones who visit, all the libra birthdays, handy work with handy friends, cyclocross season, a camp escape, etc etc etc.

I'm grateful for the hefty doses of presence my life gives me. when I'm teaching, when I'm working in different mediums, when I'm cycling and climbing and in classes, there's so many times that I can't be on my phone because it's so obvious that I'm not doing the tangible thing that I'm there to do. learning ways to fight the overwhelm when I do check back in on the messages, the feed, the onslaught of info.

continuing to be instagram repulsed, continuing to want to just see my people IRL and move our bodies and create and laugh and sing and do what we can to look out for each other.

🥳 one year sober! nothing but (occasional) nic, baby!

I think over this past year, the biggest takeaway has been that there are so many reasons why people choose not to partake in certain things, different interpretations of sobriety, and most of all that it's really pleasant to be in and create spaces where substances aren't the main focus.

I have so many thoughts on alcohol/drug culture and addiction and how it affects socialization for a lot of people, but I'll keep it short.

It's been empowering to be really disciplined and draw a hard boundary with at least one thing in my life.
It's possible to sing karaoke stone cold sober!! (if you want).
And it's lovely to be an ally for people who are sober for any reason, for any length of time.

big gratitude for the people around me who wanna holler and craft and ride bikes and who are permutating their life in different ways all the time.
