Collaborator Spotlight @johnahmadrugs Someone walked through the Dressing Room in @pasadenashowcasehouse + said they could tell I was a sensualist by the objects I chose. I’ll take it. What I was going for was definitely geometry + play in a sensual space. Structure + intellectual complexity inside something that also just feels good to be in. It’s a dressing room with a thick stack of books. This isn’t a one-note diva situation - there’s depth. A big part of that depth came from John. The space runs a tight color palette of sage green with @dunnedwards Three Bears paint, metallics, + pops of teals - so a lot of color drenching - but monochrome doesn’t have to mean flat. John’s patterning is subtle in the best way. It added texture and complexity without breaking the palette, and it created this conversation with the cork wallcovering that I honestly didn’t fully anticipate. That dialogue between surfaces is what finalized the room for me. These rugs are John’s own design. Handmade in Afghanistan. Hand-spun wool, natural veggie dyes. He was inspired by 1930s Art Deco Cubism and Ivan Da Silva Bruhns. They come in multiple colorways. Only five days left to see John’s rugs in person at Showcase!

The dressing room has always been a threshold space, not fully public or private. It is the room where the self is assembled before it meets the world. And the world is a lot right now! It has been for a while. So let us go deep. The Dressing Room As Reliquary at the 61st @pasadenashowcasehouse is not an escape exactly, but it comes from a very human need to designate certain spaces as different. To build a threshold and say: what happens here is not what happens out there. People are of course wondering - where is the secret closet? Well, in the threshold you cross over, there is actually a pocket door that opens to somewhere else entirely. You enter the secret space + decide for yourself what that is. Good morning I am excited to let you know that we have a new farmers market and the Glassell Park/Eagle rock area. My friend forwarded me the flyer, at the Echo Garden Nursery on York, with a new owner/operator creating new opportunities for us. This is a real farmers market, official with the city, with food and produce vendors, I think there’s still a few people who will be joining them, they may or may not be there yet, including a bread maker. Today is the day, it has started now at 9 AM. I have included the flyer below. I’m so glad that we have a new tenant who is improving the space, and now a real farmers market. Have a great day! #LosAngeles #York #EagleRock #Glassellapark #farmersMarket #ShopLocal
