Bodyboarding cannot fix everything. But it can change the shape of a day.

For many of us, getting into the ocean creates some much-needed space. For a while, the noise quietens. Your attention moves to the next wave, the next paddle and the people sharing the water with you.

Research into surf therapy suggests that time in the ocean, physical activity and being part of a supportive community can have a positive effect on mood, confidence, resilience and social connection.

On World Mental Health Day, we would love to hear from you.

How has bodyboarding helped your mental health?

Share your experience in the comments, or send us a private message if you would rather not post publicly. 💙

WELCOME TO THE TEAM, NATHAN LOCKWOOD!

We’re really pleased to welcome Nathan to the Bodyboard Holidays team as one of our writers.

Nathan has contributed to some of bodyboarding and surfing’s best-known publications, including Riptide, Movement, Infoamed and Carve. He brings a genuine love of the sport, plenty of knowledge and a real talent for sharing the stories behind the riders, waves and places that make bodyboarding special.

Don’t be misled by all the cold Scottish waves in these photos! Nathan is extremely well travelled, speaks fluent Spanish and has chased waves in plenty of warmer corners of the world too.

He was first introduced to bodyboarding at the age of seven on Oahu’s east side before growing up in north-east Essex. It wasn’t until he moved to Edinburgh for university that regular waves became part of his life, and he can still be found exploring Scotland’s reefs and beaches today.

One of Nathan’s personal highlights came earlier this year when he joined the Bodyboard Holidays crew at Lost Shore, meeting and sharing waves with Jeff and Dave Hubbard.

Nathan will be working alongside our other writers to help us share more stories from across the bodyboarding community, our trips and the people who make them what they are.

Give Nathan a warm welcome and head over to his personal socials to give him a follow: @nlockwood1
