The Art House recently partnered with @tetuhiart in New Zealand to present a new international pilot programme supporting disabled visual artists from Aotearoa to undertake a two-month residency in Wakefield, UK. We’re pleased to be able to share a few photographs from chosen Artists Stace Robertson @cerebralpottery and Milly Hampton @mllyml from their time on residency so far! Robertson shares: “Over the residency so far, I have been focused on technique and concepts; refining skills in my ceramic work across hand building and wheel throwing and exploring disability culture and knowledge which are central themes in my work. I’ve also been able to see the Design and Disability exhibition at the V&A in Dundee and History In Our Bones: Uncovering Stories of Disability Through Time at The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery & Museum both of which were incredibly powerful and resonated deeply which led to lots of new ideas to explore. It’s been so valuable to have the time to push ideas in different directions and see where they take me.” Hampton shares: “While at The Art House I have been researching and developing my project Motif F377: Crip Time. I have been learning new print techniques in the print room and using illustration to explore nonlinear time in folklore and personal narratives.” We’re excited to follow their journeys and see where they take their creative practices next! Safe travels to Stace Robertson (@cerebralpottery) and Milly Hampton (@mil.hampy), who are heading off to the UK to take part in the Te Tuhi x The Art House UK Residency! Over the next two months, Stace and Milly will be based at The Art House in Wakefield, living and working in their fully accessible flats and studio spaces. The residency will give them time and space to experiment and develop their practices, and connect with new communities and artists. This marks a major milestone for Aotearoa as the first international residency for disabled New Zealand artists – and the first time New Zealand artists have taken up a residency at The Art House. This residency is delivered in partnership with The Art House, and supported by Creative New Zealand.

⁣ ⁣ Greetings,⁣ ⁣ We would like to share this final message for 2024.⁣ ⁣ And say a big Thank! You! for your support.⁣ ⁣ We saw a flurry of activity which came and went throughout the walls of CG: a visual art exhibition, numerous concerts, several interactive activities as part of the annual Featherston Booktown, an artist in residence, and in more recent months, the installation of our own used record shop, continuing to attract more people each week. Stocked by Kane and Dean of High Voltage Wairarapa, and Radar records respectively.⁣ ⁣ It is a tough prospect in trying to keep a creative space running during these interesting political and financial times, and we honestly can't say how much longer we can continue doing this... But for today we're grateful for everything we and you have been able to achieve and offer thus far.⁣ ⁣ Lets see what '25 has in store.⁣ ⁣ Thanks to all the artists, musicians, creatives, and stall holders who have graced us. High Voltage Wairarapa, Radar Records, Darling Darklings, Elzette Bester, Katja Starke, Sam Saffery, Davidson's, Cerebral Pottery, Dead Threads, Rosalie Jurczenko, Trisha Findlay, Marie Burton, Chloe Mason, Ceara Lile, Steve Austin, Ava Sanganoo, Dan at The Bakehouse Collective.⁣ ⁣ To the bands:⁣ ⁣ Sam Bambery⁣ Marcus Whale⁣ Great Statue⁣ False Colours⁣ Mess Esque⁣ Franck Vigroux⁣ Antoine Schmitt⁣ Sam Saffery⁣ Hannah Everingham⁣ Tess Liautaud⁣ Jessie Shanks⁣ Hollie Smith⁣ Mark Lockett Trio⁣ Filtersphere⁣ Perpets⁣ Erika Grant⁣ Nick Hyder⁣ 'Ol' King Cole⁣ The Marksmen⁣ Deaf Edge⁣ Dream Chambers⁣ Dos-Ovni⁣ David Watson⁣ ⁣ A special thanks must also go to Lace Reihana and her 'Just Be You' music school. ⁣ ⁣ Music, playing music, and connecting through music, are extremely important to the two of us, even going so far as to say that it has saved our lives numerous times. ⁣ ⁣ Lace works incredibly hard to offer lessons in drums, singing, guitar, and keys. And we're proud to be able to play a part in supporting her endeavour of operating a music school in Featherston. The world can use more artists, so here's to the next generations of musicians she helps to flourish.⁣ ⁣ We wish you a pleasant and safe end of the year.⁣ H&Z

So proud of my friends Georgie @daughter.of.tosh and Gareth @grzwarnock for putting together @theswampgallery. Our opening last night was so fun. Sometimes living in a small town like Te Papaioea is bleak, then you have great moments like last night and remember how special it is having such a close community around you ❤️❤️❤️
