SYDA 01 🤍 What a beautiful first SYDA session we had on Sunday, welcoming our brand new cohorts into the studio for the first time with @isabelladoick and @gabby_sanders. Our young dancers had the chance to meet one another, move together and begin what promises to be a really exciting year of contemporary dance training and creative exploration. Across our nine Sunday sessions, we hope to challenge and inspire our dancers, introducing them to a diverse range of working artists and practitioners, each bringing their own movement languages, techniques and approaches to making and performing dance. NEXT UP — NOVEMBER Our next session welcomes the first of our visiting artists, Jason Mabana and Hannah Rudd. We’re incredibly lucky to have such brilliant and sought-after dance artists and educators coming to West Sussex to share their practice with this wonderful group of young dancers. We can’t wait! WANT TO JOIN US? We’ll have a limited number of guest places available across selected sessions for dancers outside our regular cohorts. If you’re interested in joining us for a one-off workshop, send us a DM to enquire about availability and our guest audition process. Here’s to the first year of SYDA 🤍 #SYDA #SussexYoungDanceArtists #ContemporaryDance #YouthDance #DanceArtistDevelopment

GUEST ARTIST — HANNAH RUDD ✨ @hannah_l_rudd The day after our first ever SYDA auditions, we’re very excited to announce another of the incredible artists our dancers will be working with this term — Hannah Rudd. Hannah is a professional dance artist, choreographer, teacher and rehearsal director whose career has taken her across some of the UK’s most influential ballet and contemporary dance companies. After training at The Royal Ballet School, Hannah began her professional career at 18 and has since worked with Ballet Ireland, Michael Clark Company, Scottish Ballet, Rambert Dance Company, BalletBoyz, Birmingham Royal Ballet and The Royal Ballet, alongside independent projects across the UK and internationally. Today, her practice spans performance, choreography, teaching, rehearsal direction and community dance. She is Dance Ambassador for Fallen Angels Dance Theatre, Contemporary Dance Tutor at DanceEast, and works as an inclusive dance facilitator and rehearsal director across BalletBoyz, Outside Edge Theatre and Fallen Angels Dance Theatre. Hannah also holds a Master’s degree in Dance Psychology and is Associate Artistic Director of People on The Move, a new dance theatre company exploring and celebrating movement across generations. It’s exactly this breadth of experience and perspective that we want our young artists to encounter through SYDA, and we cannot wait to welcome Hannah into the studio. And after an amazing day of auditions yesterday, our first two SYDA cohorts have now been selected! We’re so excited to get started. MISSED THE AUDITIONS? You can now submit a video audition to join our waiting list. Across our 9 Sunday sessions this year, whenever one of our permanent cohort members is unable to attend, dancers on the waiting list will be offered the opportunity to book that workshop as a one-off — giving more young dancers the chance to get in the room and work with our programme of visiting artists. Email us at sussexyoungdanceartists@gmail.com for more info ✨ #SYDA #SussexYoungDanceArtists #HannahRudd #ContemporaryDance

OUR FIRST VISITING ARTIST — JASON MABANA @jasonmabanadance We’re incredibly excited to announce Jason Mabana as the first visiting artist joining SYDA. Jason is a contemporary dance artist, choreographer and educator whose career spans performance, choreography and professional dance training. Currently Contemporary Module Leader, International Development Coordinator and Head of Student Choreography at Rambert School, Jason has performed and collaborated with companies including Akram Khan Company, Studio Wayne McGregor and Candoco Dance Company. His teaching practice has taken him internationally, including work with The Juilliard School, The Royal Ballet School and Taipei National University of the Arts. At SYDA, our dancers won’t experience one single approach to contemporary dance. Throughout the year, we’ll bring working artists into the studio to share their own movement practices, creative processes and perspectives. Jason’s practice combines technical and choreographic work, encouraging dancers to develop adaptability, musicality, individuality and freedom in their movement. We can’t wait to have him in the studio with our first SYDA cohorts. Final registrations of interest for SYDA auditions on October 4 are still open. Audition times will be shared with all registered dancers next week. → Link in bio #SYDA #SussexYoungDanceArtists
