OUR STRIKE AUTHORIZATION VOTE ARRIVES NEXT WEEK!

CFA members will be receiving an electronic ballot in their email, but your CFA chapter will also be providing in-person opportunities to vote.

NOW is the time to hold Chancellor García accountable! We’ve had enough of her complicity in corporatizing our university. The CSU exists for our students, not to serve executives at the expense of our communities.

Hey CSU faculty, staff, and students: Want to fund the classroom and not the boardroom? Then we need to fight for 53!

The CSU used to spend 53% of its budget on instruction. Today it's just 34%.

Why? Over the past three decades, CSU administrators slashed investment in instruction and poured money into bloated and wasteful administrative structures. Meanwhile they're hiking tuition 34% over 5 years.

So taxpayers and students pay more to pad the pockets of CSU administrators, consultants, cops, and building developers while faculty and staff salaris stagnate, class sizes soar, and course sections and lecturer faculty get the axe, making it harder for you to graduate on time.

It doesn't have to be this way.

Sign the petition in our @cfa_csusb IG bio calling on the California legislature to require that the CSU spend at least 53% of its budget on instruction -- like it used to in the the 1990s.

Then share the petition with your colleagues, students, and state legislators.

SAVE THE DATE Sunday, Nov 1st 10-6:30pm
Honrando a Nuestros Ancestros puts focus on our beloved family members who died in their struggle for a better life, for fairness, land justice, tending to our Mother Earth,
dignified housing, cultural worldviews, for historically accurate education, and for peace of mind. We are against past and
ongoing colonial injustices that take away our land resources that have displaced millons of communities and impacted our mental health. We oppose
gentrification that displaces small, mom-and-pop business and the ongoing colonization of the world! This is what our younger generations are facing. Honrado a Nuestros Ancestros will
be for life, justice and against (colonial) gentrification.

SAVE THE DATE Sunday Nov 1st 10am-6:30pm This year we collaborating with @coyotl.macehualli and implementing educational workshops that will encourage conversations that deepen our
understanding of our current events to take action towards a better future . If you are interested in volunteering for this event, we especially
need help with face painting and bringing food, fruit, and drinks.

Whether it’s fighting on the ground for fair working conditions for faculty and quality education for students or organizing her community, she will always be fighting for her people. 💪🏽

Congratulations to our CFA President, Margarita Berta-Ávila who was recognized as one of this year’s Change Makers by @sacramentobee last night.

With pressure mounting across the state from faculty and staff fighting for a fair contract, four CSU campuses—Sacramento State, Cal Poly Pomona, CSU Northridge (CSUN), and CSU Los Angeles (CSULA)—recently took part in “Five Unions, One Fight” labor coalition rallies to send Chancellor Mildred García a clear message: we are united in our contract fight for fair pay and better working conditions for all CSU employees.

While management doesn’t hesitate to increase their own salaries and compensation packages, they claim that faculty make more than enough money, with an average salary of $66,000 annually for full-time lecturers (which the majority of lecturers are not), while campus presidents average over $500,000 a year.

“Despite a 7% increase in funding this fiscal year and billions in reserves, the Chancellor’s narrative is that there is never enough money,” said Bonnie Thorne, CFA Pomona president and psychology lecturer, who spoke at Cal Poly Pomona’s rally last Tuesday. “CSU management will not pay its workers a living wage. The Chancellor’s Office has offered our CSUEU colleagues a paltry, insulting 1.2% raise. She has offered unions a one-time bonus that does not go to our base salary. With the current offer, we can’t even keep up with inflation.”

What makes all of this worse isn’t just that management is refusing to pay faculty a fair salary, but they’re now trying to shift the cost of healthcare onto us as well.

All of the CSU unions are in different stages of bargaining for a new contract, but all of us feel that management isn’t bargaining in ways that respect their workers. We will continue to organize together to push back against attacks on our rights, dignity, and shared values. When management comes for one of us, they come for all of us. #FundTheClassroomNotTheBoardroom Two women wearing red shirts and glasses smiling outdoors in bright sunlight near a building with large windows.

Despite the blistering heat, dozens of faculty, staff and others gathered at Cal State LA on Friday for the Strike Ready Rally. The protest comes as several unions are in the midst of bitter contract negotiations with the California State University System or heading towards potential strike actions later this year.

It was a day full of noise makers, chants and rallying as people gathered to listen to several speakers, share a communal lunch, and a march that later winded throughout campus with short stops at the Student Services Building and at the University Club, the new on-campus sit-down restaurant.

“We're all fighting the same battle,” Kenneth Castillo said at the rally. Castillo is the Cal State LA chapter president of the Cal State Employees Union. “This is five unions, one fight. And this is why we're here today.”
