Excellent work Monday evening by @charlottefire companies from the 3rd and 6th Battalions on a well-involved two story dwelling fire in #northwestCharlotte. The Acting Officer of first-due E21 upgraded the incident to a working fire prior to arrival because of a header being visible. The first floor had fire showing from all sides, with fire extension through the interior stairwell and by exterior auto-exposure to the second floor and attic. 3 lines were needed to control and extinguish the fire and searches were negative. Later it was discovered that the lone occupant had to jump from a second story window because his path down the stairs was blocked by fire. Of particular note was the complete burn through of nearly all of the wood “i-beams” supporting the second floor. Companies identified a hole in the floor during the primary search, but the significant “sag” in the floor wasn’t fully realized until companies had been operating for more than 10 minutes. Lightweight wood frame construction continues to be a significant hazard to firefighters and those we protect. #proudAshiftboss #Ashiftgoestofires #charlottefirefighters
