I haven’t really had the chance to do a whole lot so far this summer, so when I heard about the BOLD / Judge show at the EVR Loft, I knew I had to make the trip to Albany.

First off, huge thanks to Steve and Kate for their hospitality. They’ve been gracious hosts for decades now and their generosity is always appreciated. Oh and happy birthday to Steve!

I had a great time yesterday, not only seeing the bands, but catching up with everyone as well.

Thanks also to @lennyzimkus for accompanying me on the ride!

Honored to be included in this book and to have been asked to contribute. Fanzines are where I got my start in this scene, first with Slew and then with Common Sense. It wasn’t until a couple of years later that I started doing bands. Like many others, I wasn’t content with just standing by and watching things happen, I saw something exciting and special and I wanted to be a part of it.

In retrospect, doing zines really set in motion for so much that I would do in my life. I really enjoyed doing all of the lay out and design work for my zines. The graphics, the visuals were super important to me. Zines like Boiling Point and Schism were huge inspirations. Eventually I’d go on to do all the graphic design work for my bands, then after graduating high school, I went to college for graphic design. For work, I got involved in the printing industry and of course graphic design. Today I own my own print shop, where we do both printing and design.

This book right here is important and I’m grateful that Patrick put the time in to put it all together. Check it out, info below:

Cut & Paste: The American Hardcore Fanzine

From the early fanzines covering the pioneering bands of our scene to the staples that established the classic feel of the American Hardcore fanzine and everything in between.

Presenting a visual collection of over four hundred fanzines accompanied by distinguished fanzine creators such as Al Quint (Suburban Voice), Hud (Flipside), Kent McClard (Heartattack), Tim McMahon (Common Sense), Mike Gitter (XXX), Fred Hammer (It’s Alive), Chris Daily (Smorgasbord), Porcell (Schism), and Brett Beach (Hardware) to name a few.

Cut & Paste offers a diverse range, both visually and in terms of the individuals featured, which will give the novice important insight into our scene and, at the same time, give the ones who have been along for the ride for a while a worthy trip down memory lane.

Unterwelt Books follows up its 2023 release of CIV’s “A Roadies Tale” with another great piece of collected Hardcore history.
