“Female Hysteria”

Meet our girl: a little “ugly,” a little unhinged, doing everything she can to fit the mold. She paints her nails, cuts her hair, and brushes her teeth. Rituals of becoming, or erasure? This piece is a tender, unsettling look at the quiet violence of femininity performed. Female Hysteria is the first in a series exploring beauty, identity, and the absurd performance of womanhood. She’s trying. Aren’t we all?
