Rugby taught me discipline — diabetes demanded it.

Competing with Type 1 Diabetes isn’t just about training hard.
It’s constant problem-solving:

• Fueling enough without overdoing it
• Dosing insulin while accounting for nerves and adrenaline
• Understanding how intensity changes insulin sensitivity

Structure mattered. Consistent meals. Predictable routines.
But sport isn’t always predictable — so preparation had to be.

Low snacks ready. Contingency plans in place.

And it didn’t end after the game.
Recovery, nutrition, and blood sugar management mattered just as much as performance.

Diabetes doesn’t stop the game — it just requires more awareness, planning, and respect for the body.

On a lighter note, I always love the commentary from the boys @calvinihrig @chad.tin
